The problem is the seat is facing center ice so you have to turn your head to see the closer goal.

Alfond Arena (college) has a whole section of seats around the visitors end hovering above the glass. In the old days there was no net around it. During warm-ups things were yelled, which got pucks got shot up into the stands, and then pucks rained back down onto the ice.
