I thought it was really interesting that Dillon got an A so fast. But as I read this article I thought about not just the challenges of creating a coherent team from a bunch of different cultures, but the fact that this year particularly, the Devils are pulling together a new team that’s made up of, like 1/3rd its core, 1/3 its journeymen for whom every shift is another job interview, and 1/3rd totally new guys.
And I thought that maybe the decision to give a new guy (and, by all accounts, a deserving new guy) an A is a way to help build a team out of all of these pieces – a way of saying, seniority on the team doesn’t really matter – what matters is that right now, this is one team made up of these parts and they’ve all got parts to play.
