I’m afraid that Shesterkin seeing the rangers so willing to sign lafreniere will make him wonder what how the organization views his importance

I think getting Lafrenière’s contract squared away sooner than later is a good thing. The more variables you have squared away ahead of time, the more you can think about what has to be done next.
Does getting Lafrenière a contract before Igor put Igor in a worse position? That I don’t know. I think by nailing down contracts now you can come to Igor and say « This is what you want, but this is what we can afford, between you and K’Andre. Let’s talk about how we can do this. » It’s not a power play you want to push on someone as important as Igor is to the future of the team, but business is business.
I think the person that most potentially suffers from this is Miller. Of the three he’s the « most expendable » which feels like a misnomer because he’s *not* expendable, but I think he still falls to the third place among the three. He’s most likely going to be the last one to get a contract of the three, and he’s the one that really will get the « This is what we can afford » talk and it could end up being a take it or leave it.
Beyond that, once those contracts are set it’s just a matter of trading Trouba to wherever you can retain the least salary, trading RFAs like Kakko and Lindgren to both make cap space and see what picks or role players you can get. Then you’re just back filing with somewhat risky but rewarding youth that you can afford like Othmann, Berard, Mancini, etc.

I think a contract gets done and surprise announcement happens during season. I looked back and Henriks huge contract extension was announced in December 2013. Igor may not want to think contract during season but doesnt mean his agents arent still working

Lock that man up ASAP, he’ll only get more expensive by the day

He’s been trending in the right direction so this is a good thing.
I still can not believe that folks here are so upset over Igor wanting to get paid. He’s top three goalie in the world. The contact may have been the biggest on record but contextually it wasn’t – Price, Bob, and I believe Vasilevsky have/had higher percentages of their teams cap. If he wants 11.5 give it to him.
Neither Laffy nor Igor alone wins us the cup, but together we have the best chance.

Taking care of business. One does not take from the other.

Get Laf an 8×8 and Igor a 4×12 and we will be set.
Next season we have 28M in Cap Space. In this scenario, Igor and Laf make up for 20M. We can sign Miller for 6M-6.5M. We still will have some Cap to work with. And that’s assuming the Cap stays at 88M, which it won’t. It likely goes up to at least 90. Those three will take up around 27M in cap space, but with the Cap increasing, we will have at least 3M left to work with.
Get. It. Done.

This is genuinely Kaapo Kakko’s last season as a NYR, and at this point, is playing for a contract on another team. Unfortunately going to be a cap casualty.

That headline is atrocious

Igor at 5 years @ $12M is the max the team should pay for term and $$$$. Anything else above the term is nuts
Laf at 8 x 8 is good if that is what it takes for him to stay
Miller at 5 years @ $6M would be great for the team.

We need to sign Igor ASAP. I mean, his value to this team is immeasurable. He hasn’t even let up a goal yet this season!
