Didn’t watch because I was busy wolfing down after my fast, but glad they got the win. Monday will be lit, hopefully they get their first ever win against Utah.

  2. Paul Cotter is living up to Alexander Holtz’s draft position.

  3. Feels like a big win, even if not pretty. These are the teams you have to beat to avoid being in the merky middle with fighting for a spot

  4. I don’t want to get swept up and over blow things after a few early good games, so I’m going to temper things and keep my expectations realistic.

Paul Cotter is going to score 80 this year, and is a better version of Austin Matthews.

Keefe looks like a genius putting Cotter on that 3rd line. Also Siegs and Kovacevic look really good so far and I don’t know how you split them up when everyone is healthy. So happy Siegs is playing well to start the season.

I think it’s time to put Cotter McDavid on Jack’s line to get him going.

  7. Conceding the 3rd goal against early in the third period (going from 4-2 to 4-3) felt for sure that the Caps would push on and get the tie-goal. But the Devils held the line and that was the only High-Danger Chance that the Caps could generate in that whole 3rd period.

Real tight game. Feels a good one to win away from home!

From the highlights Marky looked shaky. I didn’t see the full game. How did he look otherwise?

    EDIT: spelling

Any game against the capitals that ends in a win is A+ to me. Some of the most disappointing losses were to the caps last year, like the game after the stadium series when it looked like they could back in the playoff race.
Utah looks super strong and devils suck on home ice so I’m a little nervous for the Monday game but they just gotta slow down their scoring and secure st least a point and they’ll have a pretty ideal 5 game start to the season.

4 games in and our high profile core members are underperforming while our newly acquired grinders are over performing. Defensive lapses are concerning. Jack and Timo are oil and water. It hasn’t worked for three years, clearly their styles of play don’t mesh.

I’m concerned neither of the top two lines could find their groove. We got bailed out by our bottom six.

The Jack line had only one high-danger chance (the Casey goal).

  12. LaHondaSkyline

Two points. That is the most important thing.

When you look under the hood there are serious problems. 3-1 record, but they Devils have played just one good game from start to finish. The record is better than the process, so far.

They are very disjointed. Even easy passes are enough off of the mark that they slow down the movement through mid-ice, PP has trouble entering and getting set up, etc., etc.

Too much roster talent to look this way all season. So it really boils down to WHEN they will get it together.

New HC, new roster players…so no reason to panic about the process yet.

If it takes two more weeks to iron things out, fine. Even expected. If it takes six more weeks that could be a problem.

  13. I don’t care how « bad » the caps are, they always seem to have our numbers so it’s nice to see the tide actually start turning (rather than merely changing on paper)

  14. SportsDude139

Fitz is a fucking genius for doing Holtz for Cotter. I did not see the vision lmao

I noticed Casey got burned a few times in the first that lead to high danger scoring chances for the Caps, but then he came back and got a goal. It looks like he could probably use some time in the A once Pesce is ready to go, but don’t want his confidence to go to trash if he gets sent down

  16. iamtheprodigy

Paul Cotter could be the new Palmieri. Young player with flashes of potential and some decent production in a limited role gets a fresh start, going from west to east, finds the right fit in NJ, and suddenly scores 30 goals out of nowhere.

  17. Mr7three2

Looked like the same ol Devils for a bit there but picked it up and showed that we definitely aren’t the same old Devils

Man there’s too much doomer talk in here for a 3-1 team breaking in a new coaching system and new players off a truncated training camp and overseas start to the season. It is game 4 of an 82 game season.

Y’all gotta let this early part of the season breathe while the Devils iron out the wrinkles of their game. Most important thing right now is finding ways to bank points while finding their A Game so you don’t put yourself behind the eight ball too soon. I’ll start having my concerns if we’re at the end of October and there’s persistent issues still, but not after week one.

  19. Honestly I’m fine with our depth guys carrying us right now.  We know our big guns will get to where they need to be.  It’s nice to see our depth stepping up and contributing early.

  20. What is crazy, is that the depth has been so good. If the Hughes line can actually play well, we are in business.

  21. Now that I’ve slept on it, I feel the same. Great game 😁

  22. AnalInferno

I find it equally concerning and refreshing that they’ve almost easily won 75% of their schedule so far without any contributions from the heavy hitters.

I was giving them a 10-15 game leeway period due to all of the new skaters and staff to gel and fall into their new style before I panic, but they seem to be holding up decently well during the learning stage.
