Not trying to make excuses for the front office, but BG did walk into a situation where the prospect cupboard was pretty bare. Taken a while to build the pipeline.
What I can’t understand is how we score then have terrible shifts right after. Is the coaching staff putting out the correct lines / D pairings after a goal? 🥅 In hockey, anytime you get scored on, the other team is going to make a big push to try to get it back asap. The Wild seem to be sleeping on Saturday at times after scoring. The free goal on the Faceoff is inexcusable last night, just tie him up – that was a backbreaker and ended up killing them.

The Wild aren't winning anything until Spurgeon, Foligno, Zucc, Brodin, Fluery, Bogosian, Trenin, Mojo, Merrill, Freddy are off the roster.
Obviously, Kirill needs to be re-signed.
They would also need to get REALLY lucky with a few of their prospects (primarily Yurov Wallstedt) because like it or not, they AREN'T ALL going to make it. They would also need to somehow convince a top 3 UFA to come to MN, which they have never once been able to do.
*You can't win with perennial injury-prone regular roster players that miss significant time.

Painfully obvious there was no plan other than to tread water and keep fans in the seats. Should have been developing players, improving their draft position and not signing veterans to ridiculous contracts. You said it Seth, they've had several years to create a lot better story than was told in Athletic which only serves to undermine belief in the Wild's leadership.
If John Hynes is part of the plan no shot we win a championship. Need to get a young coach who isnt a failed retread, most importantly isnt one of Guerins "boys"

The only time you would do a buyout is if you are looking to do a rebuild. They didn't do a rebuild, so what was really the point of those buyouts? At this point it would have been cheaper just to keep them. Bill Guerin has made some questionable moves regarding contracts to say the least, but you want me to believe that there was a five year plan? You can miss me with that hot garbage. There was no plan. I don't believe a word he said.

This is exactly what i was afraid of for spurgeon. I saw it happen to seabrook a few years ago. Spurgeon just looks like he lost a step. He can't make that evasive step after a pass, now he's taking the hits. Love Spurgeon, but that has to be tough
