  1. He’s a good goalie. It’s between the ears that’s inconsistent.

  3. He’s sure to have his ups and downs. Treliving probably didn’t know Sammy to know the impact an arbitration hearing would have on his confidence. He bounced back and should continue to do so.

Excellent goalie. Not suited for a big market. Hope he does well

Good for him. I hope he does well in Vegas.

Something about getting over our exes.

I mean love Sammy, but it’s one game…. Against the ducks….

Of course, it’s VGK! Every goalie is good there

He always chokes at some point

Vegas is probably a perfect spot for Sammy.

Even bad goalies have a good game every so often

Unfortunately, there’s a severe lack of the most basic goaltending skills in his game. He seems to swim in the crease and loses his positioning far too often. His rebound control is horrid. I personally know someone close to the organization that said Samsonov had massive holes in his game, and he seriously lacked some of the most basic fundamentals that every goaltender should know.

Like Campbell, he also seemed to get in his own head a lot, and struggled with composure. When he was on, he’d stop like 38 of 40 and steal us a game. When he was off, he’d be getting yanked before the second period after allowing 4 on 12, where he seemed to be fighting every shot. Those cold streaks made him a liability.

Unfortunately, the job of starting goaltender in Toronto is not the place to work on fundamentals and figure out your mental game. I hope he figures it out and finds success, but he’s currently almost 28, has yet to find a job as a solid, long-term starter, and has very underwhelming career stats with even worse playoff stats.

Downvote me all you want but I honestly don’t want to see him to succeed elsewhere. It was so frustrating watching him single-handedly lose half a dozen games to bottom feeders last season even while the team in front of him would score 5 goals. I felt it would be therapeutic to watch him sabotage another team to that extent instead, particularly an easily hateable team like the VGK.

I wish the best for Sammy. He definitely is in a better situation in Vegas

He even flashed a couple of Sammy smiles, hope it works out for him there!
