Il n’y a probablement pas d’endroit plus dur pour jouer au football en Amérique. Lorsque l’équipe a été créée en 2006, la plupart des élèves du lycée de Barrow n’avaient jamais joué au football de leur vie. Ce n’était pas facile cette première année. Les joueurs se sont entraînés sur un terrain de terre et de gravier à Utqiaġvik, en Alaska, subissant souvent de graves éraflures et coupures. Mais ils ont reçu une contribution unique de la législature de l’État de l’Alaska pour payer les uniformes, l’équipement et les frais de déplacement. Heureusement, une femme de Floride a vu les conditions du terrain dans une vidéo en ligne et a collecté des fonds pour un nouveau terrain afin qu’ils puissent jouer. avec plus de succès. Pourtant, les Barrow High School Whalers sont à environ 500 milles de l’adversaire le plus proche. Ainsi, les Whalers ou leurs concurrents doivent voyager en avion pour jouer. Barrow is such a unique place altogether, but this is probably the most unique! I'm from Alaska originally, and I wish I had made the trip up to Barrow (I've been close-ish – Prudhoe Bay for work). I remember when this field was first put there and how cool it was for them to get the national exposure because of it.
Alaskan living in Anchorage who has been to Utqiagvik (what you call Barrow) once, here to clarify one thing and add two pieces that seem to have been lost that might make a difference.
1) the town changed its name from Barrow to Utqiagvik in 2016, the HS is still called Barrow HS. In AK, it's impolite to still call the town Barrow.
2) Utqiagvik is not on the road system and there are no other HS in the area to play. So they fly everywhere and play farther away from home than most college programs.
3) basketball is actually the main sport for a lot of smaller communities in the North Slope Burrough. The fact that Barrow HS has had success in football is super impressive.

When I was a teenager 20 years ago I created a blue turf field in the EA NCAA Football games in Barrow as a joke as this was before the high school football team became a real thing. If I had the money to travel to see any sports team in the world, seeing Barrow play in Utqiagvik would be it.

Goods cost more in Barrow than elsewhere because it cost more to ship goods up there. Don’t complain about the cost of groceries in your area.
Since Hurricane Helene, dairy, produce and some groceries are bare on the shelf in Ingle’s stores right now. The distribution center in Asheville isn’t running at full speed I would reckon. Going to have to cope with it for awhile.
We had tech 20 years ago, in 2004 🤔. Maybe 40 years ago in 1984 we didn’t.
