  1. As a flames fan on team rebuild I can say… This is some fun and entertaining hockey. 100 percent enjoying it while it lasts. It's crazy what immaculate vibes and a team that wants to play for eachother and the coach can do. Go Flames Go!!

  2. Montréal started 5-2-2 last season.

    That being said, glad to see Huberdeau found his touch again. It's hard to see someone like that struggle.

  3. this past year for the flames was not fun

    — the frustrating results on the ice
    — the large number of players that left
    — our biggest rival went on a deep run
    — multiple conditional draft picks spoiled
    — multiple former players won the Cup
    — we missed out on drafting Tij Iginla
    — Johnny & Matthew ❤️

    honestly, the good vibes to start this season have been sorely needed

    so whatever this team ends up being, i’m honestly just happy if we’re having fun

  4. Can't speak for the other games, but the Refs completely helped them win the game against the Oiler's. The 'goalie interference' goal that was disallowed should have counted. Would have changed the outcome of that game hugely.

  5. I think what’s happening now is the runoff of a lot of young guys fighting hard to make the team. As a team they know that they have to bust their asses to win any game they’re in. It’s really hard to maintain that kind of work ethic for 82 games. I don’t think they’ll wind up in the basement, but they’ll be 5-10pts short of a playoff spot. Which sadly means that they’ll wind up with another 12th overall draft pick that’s meh…which is sort of our M.O.

  6. every year there is a team that surprises. it kind of is and isnt at the same time. can they stay there, sure. the division isnt really that good and the teams that are, arent playing like it. say what you want having a good start can make or break you in the end.

  7. It's difficult to believe this team will be able to tank when they have guys with experience in their lineup and guys who can put up points. Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund, Coleman, Sharangovich, Mantha, Weegar, Andersson. Can they even sell some of these guys? All of these guys are on long contracts with the exception of Mantha. They can retain money, but that will only hurt them in the years when they do decide to be competitive. It's difficult to envision the guys listed above being on this team in years 3, 4, 5 of this rebuild. I get the aspect of having guys to mentor the kids, but will these guys really want to be on a bad team in a few years? How about towards the end when they're all older and have lost a step?

  8. Coronato has a few good nicknames. Scoronato is a good one, seen Matty Ice a few times. But the boys in the locker room call him Bison.

  9. That last few seconds of the Chicago game where they are up 2 with seconds left and Kirkland still blocks back to back shots and the place erupts and the horn goes and his teammates grab him and hug him before going to get in line for Wolf… is just a snapshot of what the vibes are like rn for Calgary, they are playing tough chippy hockey and appear to be having a lot of fun. I cant imagine itll last but for now it is a blast to watch. The lack of pressure on the team seems to be helping Huberdeau so far and it just is a look at the future for a lot of the guys so if this can kind of persist and either have em in the wildcard hunt or just missing while learning where some guys are at I think thatll be a good season for em and something to build off of now that there arent so many worries about losing guys or making trades.

  10. Stupid comparison – FLames to Jets – in that the Jets have made the playoffs for 5 of the past 6 years and had one of the best records in the NHL last year and , meanwhile , the Flames have teetered on the brink of incompetence and the basement for the past few years. SHOW SOME RESPECT for the Jets.

  11. Just goes to show that analysts and odds makers forget sometimes that sports isn’t a game of math.

    Happy that Calgary and Winnipeg are proving the early doubters wrong. Obviously lots of season left to go – we all remember the Edmonton turnaround last season, but at this point I’m just happy to see people realizing just how good ‘bad’ teams can be.

  12. The team if significantly better because of team belief and chemistry. They shed the players who were sulking and didn't want to be there and have replaced them with faster (Mantha), younger (Honzek, Coronato) and players with more heart (Lomberg, Kirkland, Pospisil). Even players like Kuzmenko bring a new positive energy.
    This team is alot better than what people assumed just because of where they ended last year

  13. The Calgary Flames’ underlying numbers at 5v5 aren’t very good (Moneypuck).

    xGoals % -> 48.8%
    Corsi % -> 46.8%
    Fenwick % -> 47.1%
    xGF/60 -> 2.17
    xGA/60 -> 2.48

    The team PDO at 5v5 is also really high at 106.13, 3rd highest in the league.

  14. I’m mostly a Habs, then Oilers fan. But, the Monahan trade from 2022 has stipulations. So, Go mediocre Flames, so Habs get an extra top-15 pick! Panthers pick will be way low, & Flames pick is top-10 protected.

  15. What you guys fail to recognize from last year is when pospisil came into the lineup we went 34-25-3 and with this start at 4-0 make it 38-25-3, not so bad if you ask me. This is looking like a retool to me, especially that lindy trade bringing in a bunch of assets + kuzy replacing lindy, that screams retool

  16. Next week will shed more light on this hot start. After Seattle Saturday, they have Pittsburgh, Carolina, Winnipeg, @ Vegas and @ Utah. Some challenging games in those 6.

  17. We will find out over the next week with a difficult schedule if the Flames are for real… Can say the same for the leafs.
