  1. I love the preds, that's my team, but the way they're playing rn they deserve to be behind San Jose on this ranking.

  2. Shannon, I have some advice. It's ok to do a preseason power rankings based on your thoughts for the year but that is just your opinion based on recency bias and often season acquisitions. In other words, each team's potential is based on the best information you have accumulated and your knowledge and experience. Fair enough, everybody does it that way. However, in order to make things easier for you,
to start the year, you should throw out your preseason power ranking (or better yet, hold it in reserve for a later comparison), and start fresh based completely on this year's performance. Every team is equal to start with. In other words, if a team starts 0-3, no matter who they are, they are at or near the bottom of the rankings. That is completely fair and unbiased. As we both know, things will change a lot, especially near the beginning of the season, but those changes will make a lot of sense to your viewers as they occur. I know you are a big believer in how you think a team is playing and potential, influencing your power rank decisions and that is fair. However, winning and losing trumps all to start with. Calgary should be ranked higher than some other teams ahead of them because they are playing really well and their record reflects their good play. Nashville should be ranked 31 or 32, and if you based everything on performance to date, your rankings would reflect that. It would make the beginning of your year much easier in terms of criticism from fans, as your changes each week would be a lot more obvious. As you know, the cream will rise to the top. I expect Calgary to fall off somewhat, though I won't be shocked if they make the playoffs, and I expect Nashville and Colorado to improve their records as Edmonton did last year. Trust me, "everybody equal" to start with will make fans happy and your job easier and at the end of the year, everybody will be where they are supposed to be anyway. Give it some thought.

  3. The Jets haven't had much serious competition this year, yet. Mostly bottom feeder opponents. That said, the Jets vs Sharks game played out exactly how you thought it would. Not a question of who would win, but a competition on who on the Jets would score the most goals, or the flashiest ones. Perfetti has potential to be a breakout player this year. Let's just hope they can continue to play this well come playoffs.

  4. The predators biggest issue being scoring is the most surprising thing about their struggles to me

  5. As a B's fan, I have to say, I agree. They don't seem right. Something feels OFF. The Primary GOOD in the team is the 4th line and goalie. The 1st line is OK. Marchand and Coyle's line? REALLY struggling. Trent is a no show.

  6. Minnesota being punished for beating Columbus twice and never trailing in a single game so far….okaaaaay…..

  7. I live in Utah and I'm very pleasantly surprised by how good the team looks so far. I'm not sure it's sustainabale though, I think they'll come back down to earth in a week or two. I do think they could possibly be a lower seed playoff team though. I just wish I could afford tickets, they're seriously selling "limited view" seats for $95, and you have to spend at least $140 for seats where you can actually see both goals.

  8. Shannon, can you do a future outlook rankings video? Same concept as the power rankings, but where you expect power rankings to be 5 years from now.

As a pens fan… I need to know how deep the rabbit hole will go.

  9. Oof, Montreal at 21 that's wild. 5v5 we've been the worst team in the league. Our defense is very inexperienced and makes many mistakes. The only thing that is saving our skin right now is our special teams and historically they have been bad to very bad. I highly doubt we can keep this pace.

  10. Shannon you freaked me out by needing to explain how you got the puck board and then going "it's lasted me years" because I so clearly remember when you were still waiting for the board to be made, and then how cool it was when it arrived. Like I would've said you got it less than a year ago, honestly. TIME STOP MOVING SO FAST PLEASE

  11. sportsnet so angry that the team they said would never make the playoffs is #1. Sportsnet are f'n terrible.

  12. I really think everyone’s jumping on the Wings too early. The game against the Pens…I get that, they just didn’t show up. The only other games they’ve lost though are to the Rangers, who are a legit Stanley Cup contender. They beat the Preds twice…and pretty soundly. You cant convince me they’re THAT much better than Nashville. I think the next few games will tell a lot.

  13. based on the results, i understand the wings being at 25. but to me, they’re not playing bottom row hockey. if you eliminate the pittsburgh game (husso got shelled), they’re 2-2. they outplayed the rangers 5 on 5 in both games. special teams not clicking and not having kasper on the nhl roster to start the year is why they’ve had a slow start. i have faith they’ll get it figured out.

  14. The Habs played well against Ottawa, and okay-to-bad against Toronto and New York, but they were terrible against the Kings, Pens, and Bruins. I don't see how they're ahead of the Islanders at this point and I think they belong well below that.

  15. THG "I'm not biased" also THG has canucks above Flames even though flames have 2more wins than Canucks and have a win vs Canucks

  16. good video only note I have is you should flip flop CGY and STL just because of the goalie tandems. STL is more proven to be more consistent and of better quality

  17. I'd argue the one loss the wings had to the Rangers would have been a win over most teams, but the Rangers have Igor lol

  18. As a Sharks fan they are exactly where they should be. That said I hope you get plenty of rest because Tuesday is going to be brutal for you.

  19. It's a treat watching someone with 40 years of die hard hockey fandom put something like this together. An art, not a science, and built off long term intuition.

  20. Love ya Shan… but no way Vegas is sitting at 6… loss to Florida without top O players, they are sitting almost 500 and have only 23 goals, drop them to 9 move everyone else up a spot

  21. THG must have missed the win by the Kraken over Minnesota. "The wild are 1-0-2 when not playing Columbus". Kraken are 4-2 bud. Now lets all watch Utah tank–not for real.

  22. What drugs were you on putting the isles in bottom row? I'm an isles realest and not having them starting off and currently being in the top half is asinine

  23. Pretty bold to not have the Preds in the bottom 3 even more bold that they ain’t in the bottom 5. They’ve been terrible, 0-5 start is ugly
