Getting an expensive superstar doesn't necessarily translate to other teams. Huberdeau..Stamkos so far.. it's not worked out unless they're traded before they become superstar status like Zibanejad it took him 2 years after he was traded to the Rangers to become a point a game player by 25 years old. They need to be developed within, unfortunately.. but it really is case by case basis. Some work some REALLY don't and it's better off to have team control the way the CBA is written but that could change in the upcoming years. The Red Wings are stuck in the slow-rise category. It may take 7 years into yzerplan to see some actual results. So not this season. Next year should introduce more youth, only to get experienced for the run in 2025-2026 when Cossa should be starting 1a goalie. ASP, Danielson, and MBN may be within 50-100 games experience. But Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson will be young veterans in their prime. It should be fun as hell to watch! Yzerman said at the presser 4-19-19 "I'll need your patience" because this takes time. I'll NEVER forget that.. everybody seems to have ignored that statement.

Stevie may have drafted some good prospects,, his signing of free agents has been nothing but awful !! over paid many guys,,Chariot,,Pietry,,Woll Copp, to many goalies..I would rather buy less agents and pay for better quality guys… They are a soft team and will not and should not make the playoffs,,if they do they get knocked out in the first round,,may be in four…If his name was not Yzerman he would be gone,,perhaps he was surrounded by better scouts etc in Tampa,,he may be getting bad advice…

Bad lottery luck is the reason the wings rebuild has been doomed, moving down nearly as far as possibly in 4 straight drafts where we should have had top three picks to only have one top 5 pick is brutal. Added note the pro scouting has not been good, far too many bad albatross contracts for bottom line/pairing players
I've been saying that this will be a regressive season, but it's worse than I thought. I would be pulling the plug on this season already. Trade Lyon/Kane/Tarasenko, bring up prospects, tank this season.

Too many Wings fans can't accept that StevieY has been mediocre at best & will gladly give him a 12 year leash…he would've already been fired in any other town.
Stevie has been meh and his choices to bring back Fish and Veleno were terrible but lotter and weak FA classes haven't done him any favors either
Honestly I blame Newsy more here, his schemes are complete dog water, that boils down to dump chase and thats it and this upsession with are D men constantly dumping the punk into center ice only for the opposing team to intercept it, is mind numbing. Whats even more stupid is you have 3 D men who have been terrible all season in Petry, Matta and Gus. When you have Johansson sitting on the bench who has been solid on the bottom pair the few times used, SY needs to get a real coach and not some asstiant like Blashil
Sixth in the division, twelfth in the conference is going to be their landing spot. Not just this year but for the foreseeable future. This is a failing rebuild and too many Red Wings fans will be content to chant "but the prospects!" year after year.

Steve yzerman is the definition of mediocrity. And as long as ownership keeps him around, they will always be a bubble team.

It doesn't matter where the Red Wings place, they will never get a 1st pick in the 1st round of the draft. We need to accept that and build from there.
He really needs to add a quality defenseman to help seider. Why did they trade hronek years ago? I can't remember and I don't really follow Detroit
League priority is designed for bubble teams. Teams with generation super stars and great goalies have the advantage. Detroit have scored some nice goals and the other teams score mostly lucky ones.
Detroit has no hope, they overachieved last year with a better team and still missed the playoffs, this year will be even worse.

Lalonde needs to go, and I hate to say it but if the Wings miss the playoffs again Yzerman should at least be on the hot seat if not fired. I believed in the Yzerplan at first but it’s taking way too long for it to see any success. The team looks like they’ve regressed from last season defensively, offensively there’s not as many depth scorers, and they’re still average to below average at best in net.
we barely have had 3 of his picks playing already, Mo and Razer are hits, simon is looking good, ill bet when Cossa, ASP, Danielsen, and MBN are all playing,, we will be a good team, thats when you get a superstar free agent or two and win cups

Goaltending and defense are set for the future. Why get a goalie when you have two top 10 goalie prospects on the planet? Why acquire another big contract on the blue line when you have Sandin-Pellika dominating in Europe?
