Tl;dr Barzal doesn’t drive the net enough to create high danger scoring chances off passes or shots.
Don’t think that’s anything anyone here is surprised to hear

This article proves the best player on our team is criminally underrated.

Can only hope that Lambert plays them in a more offensive-based style. This kids needs to be able to fly out there, Trotz is a great coach but he was not a fit for the player that Barzal is.

I have to wonder if this article was written by or for Barzal’s agent. I am a long time Islanders fan and love the team and like Barzal. I know the negative karma will attack me, but I will state my opinion regardless.
Barzal is a great skater, very good passer, and a good player. He is not a superstar.
For the team to start playing a more offensive style to get him more points is not necessarily a good idea. We need offense badly but we need WINS more. The coach needs to play a style that wins games.
I honestly get the feeling from some in here that if we lose 6-5 and Barzal has a hat trick that is better than if we win 2-1 and he has only one goal. Our strength is in goal and on defense. We have one of the top five ( or higher) goalies in the league and a very effective and reasonable young group of D men. What is needed most on offense is having an effective damn power play. If the power play scores at a decent rate, our chances of winning goes up a lot.
We do not have enough good offensive players to play wide open hockey. That would take away from our only two strengths …. goal and D men.
A slightly more open style might help, but to make a drastic change so that we get more goals and perhaps less wins is wrong. It has to be TEAM first, and changing to accommodate one player helps only that player to pad his stats and make him either expect more than he is worth or leave as a UFA.
The team is a hundred times more important than Barzal !!

Very good player but to go to the next level, he needs to shoot more and drive the net when he has chances. He’s one of the most talented skaters in the whole league with excellent passing ability but he really limits himself by playing a perimeter game and not shooting when he has great chances.
I’m a big Barzy fan but this is a realistic assessment of him. The good thing about him is these things can be changed, and hopefully a coach that encourages a more free style for him will help, but he still has to do it. Obviously a good linemate or two will inflate his totals too but I don’t think he’s entirely been held back from linemates, part of it is his individual style too.
