Nope. Can’t believe it. Not until it’s an 8 year deal with full NMC. Absolutely zero chance he’s not playing the field, and 100% chance teams will try to pull him away offering a « better fit ».
He doesn’t have UFA rights until July 2024. So there’s no incentive to sign right now on Barzal’s end. For us, it buys a year of UFA.
His deal expires next summer, and he’s only arbitration eligible making him an RFA still.
I wonder if they do another 2-3year bridge to wait until the cap jumps.
Athletes have to say the right thing to press. They are trained for this. He’s not gonna say “I’ll go to whoever offers the best contract, lifestyle for me and chance to win”
The day people learn this unanimously we will stop doing these reactions to athletes quotes.

With Lou’s history of letting UFAs get away and not signing any real good UFAs, how can some people think a Barzal deal is in place. Makes zero sense.
I would be shocked if Barzal stays and perhaps the best we can hope for is he plays harder this year to get himself more money.
