Wait, are those patches going to be on ice during the regular season?

  2. Stryk-Man

I just wish a company would buy the space and then leave it blank. I would support any business that did it. I’m not naive enough to think the benefit to the business is great enough to justify this route, but a kid can dream.

Instead we get a tacky patch for a gambling site.

  3. GammaTheta491

Guess I’m not buying jerseys anymore

  4. bryancasto

I said this about the helmet ads and I’ll say it about this one, it could have been a lot worse. At least it’s not across the entire bottom border of the back. I still think that’ll happen one day, and it’s why the NHL was so stuck-up about Ovi’s tucked sweater.

  5. UnderCoverDoughnuts

This is a slippery slope we’re going down…

  6. YaMoBeThere

I am all for legal gambling but advertising it directly on a jersey feels gross.

  7. tcrex2525

…and it’s a gambling add. Way to keep it classy Caps!

  8. AsstToTheBeerSales

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE NHL LIKE THE EUROPEAN SOCCER LEAGUE WHERE ONLY THE SPONSORS ARE ON THE JERSEYS!

Fuck. I’m buying the jersey to support the team and a great player. Fuck the sponsors, especially one where their whole thing is giving money up in hope for money

  9. AggressiveSkywriting

Well this is a bummer. And with nasty ass sports betting.

  10. I know it won’t be on merch, but don’t buy merch anyway. Don’t support this bullshit.

  11. Zyphyro

I was really hoping Capitol One would get it for the hat trick. I can get behind consistent advertising *if I have to*.

  12. HighwaySixtyOne

Ads on sweaters is a fail, but sports betting site ads on a sports teams’ jersey is just doubling down, making it worse. Just …nah.

  13. Joshottas

Why is the gambling ad such a big deal? Can’t watch any sporting event without having beer sponsors all over the boards, on the ice, commercials, etc. Why the outrage over this? I really don’t care about the ad placement (blends in, so whatever,) but I’m all ears to learn as to why folks are that upset over it.

  14. mark_dink

Not a big fan of the ads, but at least it’s just lettering, and the background for the patch is the same red. won’t be super noticeable on the broadcast except for when they zoom in on the benches and maybe replays. hope they don’t stay, but I’m not super torn up about it. I’m eager to see if other teams follow suit

also, I hope that kid makes the starting roster, I want to see him playing and smiling so bad. opening night last year had me hooked and I cant wait to see more.

  15. Will Caesar’s Sports Book be taking bets on how long until ads take up more space than the team logo?

  16. OneNineFiveOne

Does this improve the shitty Caesars Sportsbook connected to the Arena? Every time I’ve gone there, their staff is horrendous service and attitude-wise.

  17. SMA2343

NBA has ads on their jersey’s already. People are taking this WAY out of proportion.

  18. CGamble04

Lol can’t get away from these gambling ads. Rip to any recovering gambling addicts that watch hockey

  19. Rustyguts257

Don’t like the ads on sweaters and I really don’t like how cosy the NHL has become with gambling

  20. plaidverb

Completely unrelated to the ad: Hendrix Lapierre is a kickass hockey name.

  21. Imthecoolestdudeever

AHL has been doing this for years. While it is extra crap on the jersey, so long as it uses the correct matching color scheme, I’m not too bothered by it.
