I know the Canucks are supposed to start low but that seems kind of insulting. A top 6 center, team captain, and who just came off a 30 goal season, for 5m AAV is absurd.
I expect a contract around $6×8. We concede a little ground on AAV, and they get the full 8 years in return. And like JT Miller said, you got to take a little less for the team. If Bo is a true leader, he will follow in JT’s footsteps
I’m guessing the Canucks were using the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins contract (5.1×8?) as a comparable for Bo. Which is smart, but the market has shifted a lot since then. Especially with word the cap will rise 8mil in a couple years.
It is tough, if Boudreau is set on Miller, Petey and Horvat down the middle does it really make sense to be paying your 3rd line centre (Bo) $7mil per year? Cause Miller and Petey aren’t going anywhere.
This new management staff is crippling our team character….. first the JT Miller hat picture from earlier today and now this lowball offer? They obviously don’t want good people on this team.
I imagine the Canucks have pitched an offer slightly above his current AAV being that Bo has performed somewhat better than the amount points he did when he signed his 5.5×6. Captaincy and potting 30 goals last year will have an impact for sure.
Canucks will offer in the high 5 range, his agent will ask for somewhere in the 7 range, hopefully they meet somewhere in the middle around 6.5MAAV

None of the insiders have gotten anything right with the Canucks since JR & PA took over. More of the same here.
That’s not even a low ball offer. Look at what RNH, Trochek, and copp all got paid. Horvats good but there’s no way he deserves more than 6 mil
Alvin needs to keep it under 6 and give term to keep the cap hit low cause this contract isn’t going to age well. He had 13 pp goals because he was gifted the bumper spot on pp1. His 17 even strength goals are (1 shg) as a 2c gifted pp1 time and lack of defensive skill do not warrant more than 6 x 8.
I would trade him as we will have aging Miller, OEL and Horvat during Petey and Quinn’s prime. Unfortunately the timing is off but we are going for it so I’d rather the 8 years to keep his aav low.
I think Horvat is the odd man out long term. At the end of the day we need to reallocate cap and trade capital to our D, moving on from Horvat can do that.
I really wanted it to be Miller but this is probably the route they’ve decided on

Offering your captain a $500K annual pay cut *and* over $1.5M less than Brock, right after Bo’s first 30-goal season? Not a good look. They should at least offer $6M AAV to start, and worry about Hogs and Dermott later.
