[Dhaliwal] Elliotte Friedman sur le contrat de Bo Horvat : Ce n’est pas proche, ça ne progresse pas. Certaines personnes pensent que ce sera dans les 6, je ne crois pas, du moins dans les 7.
Elliotte Friedman on Bo Horvat contract : It is not close, not progressing. Some people think it will be in the 6's, I do not believe that, in the very least in the 7's.

6s would be a steal for Bo at this point
I love the guy but nothing he’s done has shown he’s worth over $7 million on what would obviously be a long term contract. Plus, now that JT is signed it’s hard to see Bo being more than a really good 3C for that contract, which would be very useful but there’s a limit on how much he should be paid to do that.
After how the Miller deal went down. I don’t trust any “insiders” and trust the management team. For now. 🙃
Not worth 7+, even if the caps going up. Cap goes up for all 32 teams, not only us. Can’t afford to pay close to 25M on 3 centers, maybe more when pettersson extends
Funny how so many people treat Horvat like chopped liver now. The Canucks chose Miller over him, but he’s a very good player.
For a team that needs to get over a hump in the playoffs, Horvat will be an extremely valuable asset. That team isn’t the Canucks of course because they can’t even get into the playoffs.
7 is way too much for horvat. If he can’t be realistic then trade him at the deadline. His comparables are RNH and trochek, and they’re getting payed in the 5 mil range.
If horvat has a good season and he’s still looking for 7 mil and many years, I’d look at finding a cheaper and better replacement in free agency. There’s a lot of good talent in next years free agency.
Hard truth is pettersson is going to need an extension that should be in the 9-9.5 range, Miller’s making 8 mil. There’s no room for horvat if he’s demanding more than 6 mil.
If they aren’t close with Horvat then they’ll look into trading him. That will mean other teams can try and negotiate with him. At that point his $7 will be put to the test. I’d assume if it’s not a huge money boost somewhere else he’ll sign here.
Friedman also said JT Miller will be 9+, he does not know anything
7’s is fine. Lock him up.
The landscape completely changes when the NHL makes the big cap increase, and it’s likely the cap wil continue to rise after. We should be on pace for 100+ plus by 2025 if current growth continues, and it should with the ESPN deal and the league’s expansion teams having success.
We’re in rare air being able to forecast the next few years of cap, and still being able to sign these deals. Or cap situation past 23/24 is really nice looking, aside from the OEL contract, which is managable. It’s definitely in our best interest to sign Horvat to a deal that see’s him through his prime. Bo is an extremely valuable asset on the open market, and we will likely get the best value by acting as soon as possible.
Nathan Mackinnon’s deal will get done soon, and when it does, it could redefine contract value. We do not want to wait until that happens.
A lot of yall be quick to throw away Bo when he has one of the best FO win rates in the league ☠️ at some points he was one of the only people on the team consistently winning them too. Not to count everything else he brings to the table
Lots of people in this thread calling out RNH and Trochek as comps at $5m.
Bo is a captain, consistently has been used as matchup centre and also scored over 30 goals last year. People defending Boeser to the grave about his elite scoring meanwhile Bo is the one who has actually scored 30+ AND plays a premium position.
Cap will be going up substantially over the course of the deal, pay the man between 6.8-7.25 and the Canucks are set at centre for the next x amount of years.
People are delusional if they think he’s replaceable – look how hard it’s been to find a 4th line centre for gods sake lol
7 is fine for someone who’s got a crazy faceoff % along with the goal scoring ability he’s got. We need more playoff runs to show what he’s really capable.
$7m is fine at the right term, but obviously $6m should be the push if both camps want the full 8 years. I personally think Bo isn’t worth 8x$7m due to his lack of 5v5 scoring but there are many old school GMs who would be happy to give him that much for sure
If this deal can’t get done I am okay with a trade with the Devil. New Jersey has Nico, Jack, Sharangovich, and Mercer all under 25. Nico got paid and the other 3 will need a big contract if they keep putting up the numbers that they are; what they are lacking is a veteran Centre which Bo can provide, and we can either take Mercer or if hockey gods are generous Hughes an we will get a young affordable cheap Centre for a few years until the cap goes up and we can assess our return whether to resign them or trade for assets 🤷♂️
Testing the waters to see if I still get shit on for suggesting that we should explore trading Horvat for a dman.
He gone 🙁
where TF is the cap space for a Miller AND a Bo extension in that range gonna come from? Only meaningful money coming off the books next year is
>*checks notes*
Bo Horvat :/
if he pops up like Kadri last season, yea sure lets do 7
We need him. Playoff beast plus face offs are big in post season
I’m expecting some money ball contract here. Could be front heavy or something interesting. Excited to see what the big 🧠 of Castonguay & Doerrie can conjure up.
Bo’s contract should be somewhere between Boeser and Miller.
I have this weird feeling that Horvat will be traded for a premium RHD. I fucking hope not, but I really don’t know if Allvin (based on everything he has said about Horvat, Miller, and Pettersson) has Horvat penciled into the Canucks future.
As great as Bo is, I wouldn’t want him for 7 million. Even if the Cap goes up, him and Miller would be adding an extra 5 million, the Canucks have good center depth, so if he won’t settle, I think we should move on.
I’d be okay with Bo in the 6-6.75mil range but that would be my absolute limit.
If he wants more than that then I’d rather trade him and recoup some assets (ideally we can get a top 4dman). And then take our chances in free agency next year and see if we can sign someone like Kerfoot (Vancouver boy that would likely have interest signing here) or Barbashev out of St. Louis to fill that 3C position going forward.
7m x 5 sounds about right
Horvat to the Leafs, Horvat to the Penguins.. Horvat for Ogie Oglethorpe .. Horvat wants too much.. Canucks aren’t offering enough .. Miller’s wife hates Horvat’s wife’s horse ..
-Vancouver hockey media until Thanksgiving
Bo isn’t worth 7 million
He also said he thought it could get into the 8’s. if that’s the case he needs to be moved. You don’t pay a 55-60 point player that much.
Bo Horvat needs to realize that he hit 30 goals because of being served prime time opportunity on the league’s 9th best power play. I know that he was an important piece of it, but his 5 on 5 production does not scream a 7 million player to me.
The most direct contract comparable in the NHL for Horvat is Tomas Hertl, who got 8.1~. Kadri just signed for 7×7. People are crazy to think Bo is only worth 6. That’s less cap percentage than when he signed his current deal.
I think a lot of people aren’t realizing how expensive it is to sign any center that can play in the top 6. Kevin Hayes is a pretty comparable player as well when he was in UFA and he got 7.1. Andrew Copp just signed for 5.7 and so did Trochek. Will Karlsson, 15-20 goal 40-50 point center, got 6 million. PLD has a fraction of the results of Horvat and is making 6m, and will likely get more when he hits UFA. Phil Danaul got 5.5 million after having a 5 goal season. Larkin is likely going to sign for 7.5 or so. Charlie Coyle makes the same as Horvat right now and I’d take Horvat 100 times in a row over him.
At the same time, this was an issue that was going to present itself when the signed Miller while also having long term contracts to Garland, OEL, Poolman, Mikheyev, etc. You can’t just keep keeping this group together while making it more expensive and hoping that out of nowhere they get a defensive center that can play better matchup duty or build a right side of the defence that can actually play.
7×7 done deal.
$7M for a 30 goal scorer in the prime of his career seems very fair. That puts him around the same salary as Hayes, Van Riemsdyk and Boeser. Even if he signed for $8M he compares well with Hertl, Johansen, and Duchesne.
Very fair and reasonable
Friedman (and every insider, really) has been completely out of touch with what’s been happening in Vancouver.
Horvat will sign, late in the day on a Friday for much less then anyone thinks. Right after Friedman tweets how far apart the two sides are.
Boeser is making 6.65 and I’m not sure why Bo would take less than a winger who he outscored last year. Seems like an AAV around the same or slightly higher than Boeser’s would make sense, although I get that Bo is looking for more than 3 years.
6.9 for the memes
I’d be ok with a Kadri 7×7 deal. Bo is a captain and has intangibles plus he’s as reliable as you get on face offs (which drives key draws on both OFF and DEF zone starts). He’s also a proven playoff performer, and you need to pay for that. If he somehow signs below 7, it would be because he gets an 8th year with the nucks.
He will get signed no doubt 👍
Everyone knows Cap’n Bison could be worth $9M if he could get over his shrill little fear of being punched in the tummy. Maybe he agent could buy him boxing lessons for Christmas?
And I know I may have confused some Breaking Bad fans here. It’s Capn Bison not Capn Cook, despite them fine melons Jessee got to see! I also just must add I don’t want Capn Bison to use a meth rage to vanquish his foes that would be a performance enhancing drug and we winning the cup CLEAN IN 2023 BOYS no gear in our sacs and no juice in our needles!
