For some reason, he’s playing a full minute (14:35->13:35) less than last season. No Shipachyov on his team this year, but he’s still got Jets legend Eric O’Dell with him.
I feel so torn with the season coming up. On one hand I miss watching the jets play, but on the other I can’t see myself enjoying it without my son next to me.

– Bowness called him before he left for Vegas (Scheif is there for the NHL/PA media tour) to let him know about the captaincy.
– Bowness called him this summer to check in on him, how his summer is going, etc « I’ve never had a coach do that in my career »
– Scheifele changed his offseason routine this year, working with a new trainer in Michigan
– Working a lot with Adam Oates again this summer, who raved about Bowness
– Oates and him are watching a lot of film on battles in the corners in both zones
– Scheifele says that rumours of a broken room are untrue « we have a very tight knit group. » Says last year was about « lack of direction, uncertainty about systems »
– « It looked messy last year. » Says that they didn’t know, systems wise, either what to do or why they were doing it (YIKES)
– Looking forward to a fresh start systems wise, « why are we doing this in the dzone, why is this our role in the neutral zone etc. » Says that understanding will help the team play faster as its people know their roles more
