    Holy fuck

So uh Wheeler, Scheif, Morrissey, Lowry with the As? More players in that group?

  2. Asusrty

Just hoping Wheels takes this in stride and doesn’t let it affect his play.

  3. UncleBogo

Is this the start of the Rick Bowness Experience?

  4. Ploofie

    Holy fuck?

Never would have expected this to happen but I’m glad things are getting shaken up at least lol

I think Wheeler is/was a great captain for the team and helped the team reach a new level but I think a new leader will help get us back to that level of play.

The right move. The other day on Wpg sports talk Hustler was saying maybe Wheeler decides on his own not to be captain anymore and I was just thinking how dysfunctional this team is if they have to have the coach and captain walk away from their posts voluntarily. Who knows (I guess we’ll find out at noon), maybe Wheeler is the one who suggested it, but at least he can announce it with Bones instead of having to angrily say « I’m not the captain anymore » after a losing streak during the season

Yoooo Bones has some major cahonas

Oh captain my captain, this is bitter sweet. On one hand it shows that organization realizes that the blake wheeler jets era is over but on the other hand it feels like my hearts being torn out.

This was the right thing to do. Love wheels and what he’s done for the team and city but it was time.

I for one am shocked, but hopefully this bodes well for the team from now on since we’ve always talked about how the locker room’s dominated by the same guys

  11. j0Hnzer

Ahh damn…the « Who’s your captain? » chants back are coming right back at us lol.

  12. ColdPrairieHockey

That is wild. Pretty shocked to be flat out honest. Im not sure what 4 As does to clarify anything either. If there is a C handed out I don’t see how it isnt Lowry.

  13. colehennigar

This is truly the Rick Bowness Experience in front of our eyes, wow.

In other news, that “who’s your captain” chant we did a while back isn’t looking too great right now LMAO

Let’s go Bones! So happy to see actual change

  15. Was hoping for some roster changes around wheeler, but who wants to touch that contract.

  16. TrueNorthStrong1898

This needed to be done. Plenty of guys in that dressing room that are more worthy of a letter than 55 and 26. Finally a substantial change

  17. PavelBlueRay

Remember when Rick Bowness was with Alain Vigneault in Vancouver they even made Roberto Luongo the captain once.

I think this is a excellent idea.

Putting gas on the Wheeler trade fire.

Bittersweet IMO. Wheels did what he could and brought us to the WCF. He was the best guy available after Ladd and was a great captain for the time. But this was to be expected. I think the Jets were ready to part with him with how things unfolded last season. They just couldn’t find a suitable trade. He can either bitch about this or use it as motivation. Let’s see.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but one guy I’d personally love to see with an A is KC. With his play last season, he’s definitely a lead by example kind’ve guy. Doesn’t say too much, just absolutely shows it on ice.

  21. fdisfragameosoldiers

Interesting that they stripped the A’s from Schieffle and Morrissey aswell for the time being.

San Jose did it to Jumbo Jo and it seemed to benefit him so we’ll see what happens. Gonna be awkward for Wheeler to have to do a press conference today.

  22. CouchBoyChris

I kinda like it. They are big boys and should be able to handle any hurt feelings about it.

If there are in fact leadership issues, then it’s a good move.

If fans think Wheeler is a problem with the team, this should be something they can appreciate as well.

EVERYONE GET IN HERE! SOMETHING HAPPENED

What a strange turn the Jets have taken in the last few years. It doesn’t seem like very long ago that 26 was being touted as the one of the best captains in the NHL, while 55 was unquestionably thought of as his heir apparent. Now 26 has been stripped of the C, and, barring some major turnaround, it would be shocking to ever see it on 55’s jersey.
