I loved the sabres for many years. Hated when they fired Ruff. Then traded Miller. They intentionally broke the team for a better draft choice. That was disgusting from a competitive aspect. No draft is ever a guarantee. I haven't really followed much since. I was optimistic with Housley, but just did not have steam. I am only gonna watch, if play here resumes, if the make Rob Ray coach. Ruff with an average team is better than what they have for last decade, because they were always scrappy, and on any given day, could out hustle a better team.
I don't even understand how it's possible to manage a team so poorly. With a finite number of players to distribute among the league, shouldn't every team be good once in a while due to random luck?

Being a fan of the Canucks, Vancouver and Buffalo were expansion teams in 1970. Both teams are long suffering so I share the Sabre fans' pain. Hate that more recent expansion teams like Anaheim, Washington, Carolina, etc have all won Cups already.

The Combination of horrible asset management, bad development of players, toxic culture and bad chemistry combined with the Atlantic Division having juggernauts such as Boston, Toronto, and Tampa Bay have left the Sabres in this state of mediocrity for the past decade, but they’re making positive strides and Dalhin looks like he can be a top 3 defenseman in the NHL

Instead of Pegula selling the team, they should have Kim step down as team president and hire a hockey person.
Completely left out how during the Conference runs all the deals for rental players dealt away plenty of draft picks. And the picks that were left over were misses. The NHL level group was fine during those years. Until Drury, Briere, Campbell departed leaving the likes of Derek Roy to be a 1C with an empty pipeline of draft/developed talent to replace them. The Sabres demise started the second they went to their first Conference final and didn’t begin to show signs until 2009 while ultimately rearing its full ugly head in 2011-2012.
Lindy Ruff Was there And Daniel Brière Chris Drury After they left they picked that team apart like nothing and put them in shock and They been in shock for 10 years and don’t look good about coming back
Rebuild is not done by trading picks, even if its 4th round and they traded bunch of the during the years. They rushed guys the was not ready yet. They traded picks for mediocre players and it hurt them. I think there is no quick fix in free agency or trades. It must be done properly. And I have some bad news, it needs to be done from the scratch, but by competent people or I should say GM. Skinner contract is horrible and there is no way to get rid of it, Okposo is the same. They need to start with trading next season for picks. Johansson will be good rental for other teams, Miller, Montour, McCabe, Ristolainen should be traded too. Sabres have enough cap space, so taking some awful contracts for another picks will be the way.

i'm a Caps fan. yeah, they won their championship in 18. then reminded the rest of the league why it took the organization 44 years to get it.
on the flip side, substitute Buffalo for the Orioles. i share your pain. i became a fulltime fan in 88, which had the disastrous start of 0-21. most recently was the 14 years of losing (97-2011). now in rebuild mode yet again. sheesh…
hopefully things will get better in the near future Sabres fans. keep the faith strong. even if your team's management can't tell their ass from their elbow.
Keep in mind that no one tries to build a bad team, a bad organization. Keep in mind also that the same ownership of the resurgent Buffalo Bills is the same ownership of the Buffalo Sabres. While it is (and should be) no comfort, we're not alone when it comes to long-suffering franchise (hello, Detroit Lions).

Maybe the Sabres should spend more time fixing the on-ice product instead of designing and marketing new jerseys to the fans. However, if the fans keep supporting a crap team and buying the overpriced merchandise then the team ownership will be all too happy to take their money. Of course, a lot of sports fans are suckers for punishment…..
It’s Buffalo, fans are very familiar with mediocrity and losing . It’s in their history. Buffalo people will spend top $ to see losers and buy the merchandise. What do you expect owners to do when they make money by putting out bad product. Other cities don’t.
