Could probably do a similar video for Lou Lamoriello and the NJ Devils.
Feel like two other things really hastened their demise-moving to the Eastern Conference and leaving Joe Louis Arena. Both were big parts of their identity and they lost all their rivalries, both traditional and more recent. They just seem lost.
It’s hard to be good forever…
Being a Blackhawks fan in this era, I hated the hawks cheapskate owner as much as I hated the Redwings and Avs buying up all the hall of fame talent to bolster their rosters. When the hawks were finally in the position to do the same, the salary cap came. That cap hurt the hawks chances of maintaining but this is true for the Redwings too.
Steve Y leaving was the worst thing that happened looks what he’s done in Tampa
I will always argue the Red Wings killed their farm system and couldn’t manage the cap in the new NHL. That’s it. They bought a few cups and every good player they could get their hands on.
Meh.
That's how it works. Just like empires.
One of my favourite what ifs is what if Marian Hosea signed with the Pens long term before leaving for Detroit. Does Chicago win three cups without Hossa in the future? Does Pittsburgh trade with Toronto for Phil Kessel? Who knows but it’s cool to think about
If only the Wings would have learned to tank entire seasons to get high draft picks. Like Pittsburgh.
I guess they had too much pride…..
do a new jersey devils collapse
Maaaaan they kept the city rocking 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
How the Red Wings' attempts to maintain a dynasty caused a Lightning dynasty…
Detroit is ice cream? And Minnesota is spinach?? Minnesota? The “state of hockey”??
Lol
F U guy
Sure we suck, but not for long!
And the North Stars woulda won us a championship if our F’n owner wasn’t the spawn of satan himself!
Sad, it’s gotten even worse since this video has come out!!!
Damn I really thought gustav nyquist and Tomas Tatar sauce would take over for Datsyuk and Zetterberg
Most teams would have tried to move players like Yzerman … Lidstrom and Datsyuk but Detroit is or was one of the greatest ownerships in all of sports … but that sooner or later brings you to older players , dedication is good and bad and of course losing Bowman sucked too!!
As a devils fan I want to know what happen to them after the 12 Stanley cup finals they made the playoffs twice in that span
Give me an Iverson Sixers collapse or maybe a 2001 Dbacks collapse because 3 years later they went 51-111
Holland didn't have anything to do with Fedz, Zetterberg , Pavel or Franzen.
I love these vids you guys should seriously put these on Amazon so I can listen to them at work
The greatest in history
Do one about the Ducks similar timeline after their cup win
They’re still better than the Lions
Holland was actually fired in 2019 when Yzerman took over.
Hmmm…what happened to the Kings, Blackhawks, Bruins? The same valley, we just stayed together longer. An amazing achievement in modern sports.
They were the closest thing to a dynasty, going into the millennium ahead. I remember those times.
can you imagine in Holland would have let Yzerman be GM
As a penguins fan since the late 80’s, besides being at Game 1 of the 92 finals for the comeback against the Blackhawks, winning against the Wings and Hossa after 08 probably induced the longest lasting smile on face after a game ended.
