  1. This Sabres fan definitely has hope! For this season, if they finish above NHL .500 for the first time in [?] years I'll be thrilled!

  2. Sabres and Amerks fan here, if JJ Peterka doesn’t make team I refuse to watch a si gle game this season! It would be the most ridiculous thing to do having him play again in AHL, he had 80 points in 80 total AHL games, had amazing playoffs and after a slow start had 31 goal in last 57 games. Quinn had bad playoffs and no way he can beat out all the right wingers in the team. Peterka not being able to beat out Asplund for 3rd line would be the joke of century, Peterka was the best PK and two way player on Amerks last season.

  3. With the finish last season against a lot of teams fighting for their playoff positioning and coming off a 100+ point pace over close to 30 games.

If they can catch that magic again with running back the same group of guys to start, I feel like they have an early season advantage of already knowing their teammates over teams like Detroit and Ottawa who have improved, but might stumble due to not noting how it all fits together on ice.

Sure, teams in the Atlantic improved on paper, but results remain to be seen. Buffalo has looked good on paper before too and still came out at the bottom of the league.

  4. Donnie Meatballs I think is the coach they should keep and Jack not being there anymore is HUGE

  5. The expectation for me is gonna be a playoff berth—let’s f—kin’ go! 😄👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  6. Some 🔵🟡 angry goat head jerseys would look pretty sexy—I may even purchase one if we decide to go that route…I do really like our current uni’s though!

  7. Great job THG as always. I think finally the Sabres have the right GM and Coach to mirror the success of the Bills. Time will tell.

  8. The Sabers have 19 million in cap space I wonder why they have that much isn't there a trade Hometown kid coming up soon for free agency next year Patrick Kane anyone

  9. Another fair assessment of the Sabres. Well thought out presentation, as all of your stuff is. All Sabres’ fans should expect a .500 or better record. As that comes along, I think attendance will build back up. I think that Buffalo has filled their prospect pool to the brim exactly because top notch players don’t want to come there. You need only look at Ryan O’Reilly and Taylor Hall to see the evidence. I do agree that as they find success, the “black hole” reputation will disappear. As always, hope spring eternal. Lol.

  10. To be a sabre fan, is to know to temper expectations. But the end of the season last year was as excited by sabres hockey as I've been in years!
    We will see 😊

  11. Krebs is definitely promising, but he needs to remove his penchant for making bad passes. He has obvious passing skills, but has a tendency to throw passes blindly that inevitably end up on the sticks of opposing players.

  12. Very good take on Buffalo. They are young and look like a tight unit. Fun to watch is my take. Filling the arena will be job 1, once the fans are on boar, good things will happen. Ottawa and Detroit look to be on pace with Buffalo. This may not be their year, but when they break out, they will shine for years to come. No one in hockey has the prospects the Sabres do. They have a coach to develop the young talent.

  13. I feel like I can be more than cautiously optimistic. If Tony Meatballs assembles lines with chemistry and if the Young Sabres overperform just a bit, I feel we can flirt with a playoff wild card spot. We were 8-14-4 overall last season against division foes. We were 3-1 against Montreal, could sweep them this year. We got swept by Boston and that ain't gonna happen this year. We got swept by Detroit! That is 100% not gonna happen this year. We were 1-2 against Tampa Bay; we got swept by Florida; we were 3-1 against the Leafs (Yay!); we were 1-2 against Ottawa. I think we definitely improve against Boston, Detroit, Florida and Ottawa. My Magic 8-Ball says we go 16-9 in the Atlantic in 2022-2023. If we can get close to .500 against the Metropolitan and break even against the West, a playoff spot will be as sniffable as the scent of Cheerios near Downtown Buffalo.

  14. Dahlin was 18yo in his rookie year while Makar was 20yo & Fox was 21yo. Dahlin will be busting out very soon. I don't see the Sabres finishing 7th or 8th this upcoming season especially if Comrie can settle the net down. Plus the Sabres will have Power for a full season as well.

  15. Outside of Vancouver the teams that had 6 players scoring 20+ goals last season made the playoffs (Buffalo had 5).

  16. I’m just gonna make the prediction now: This year they improve and almost make the playoffs. Patrick Kane sees this and, becoming a free agent next year, signs and retires a Sabre. That same year, Okposo retires and either Tuch or Kane get the C. Also, I’m praying the rumor they are bringing back the Red & Black Goatheads as alternates is true!!!

  17. The Sabres really aurprised me recwntly. I hadn't properly assessed the Sabres's prospect pool or many other teams for that matter in quite a while. What I've learned is that the Sabres team has 7 of their own first round draft picks recently made that are waiting for there shot in the NHL. This includes Owen Power, Matt Savoie & Jack Quinn.

On top of that there are 3 more recent Sabres 1st round picks who've graduated to the NHL; Dahlin, Cozens & Mittlestadt.

AND AS WELL, not to be forgotten are the young players acquired through trade in Tage Thompson, Peyton Krebs & Devon Levi and the myriad top prospects drafted in the mid to later rounds in the recent drafts; JJ Peterka, Matt Samuelsson, Jacob Bryson & U.P. Lukonnen. Oh yea, and how about Alex freggin' Tuch?!

So to summerize l, yes it's been a bummer having to trade away Eichel, Reinhardt & Risto. Yes, Okposo & Skinner have bad contracts -but have both shown signs of getting their game back. And yes, the team has a few seasons to go of struggling before they may be contenders for the Cup again. However the future looks pretty fucking good. They have the top prospect pool in the NHL. As well as a considerable number of young players with high NHL upside.

I'm a Canucks fan. But man I am excited for Buffalo!

  18. I think Buffalo improves this year with Dahlin and Power maning the blue line and 3 first round picks in the draft

  19. Buffalo's big problem the last several years has been long losing streaks. One objective they had last year was not to go on long losing streaks. They didn't get it done. If they can overcome that hurdle this coming season, they will be able to climb within the Atlantic Division, maybe significantly so. But if they continue to get in ruts and lose 6 or 7 games in a row, or lose 8 of 10, even just a couple times in the season…that will again be too much to overcome.

  20. As a buffalo sabres fan living in buffalo I miss the 06-07 or even the 11-12 teams and my favorite hit from that time is Brian Campbell laying out rj umburger

  21. This team will raise Eyebrows this year. A playoff contender for sure. Goaltending will be the deciding factor.
