layered question. it may be better because Mrazek was so bad. but in 2022 Campbell is the best goalie of them. and i dont want his team to go into the playoffs with Murray/Samsonov. We need better goaltending to win the playoffs.

It doesn't matter who is in goal for the Leafs!!!!! The offense heavy Leafs will fall again in the first round due to the offense not helping the defense. But it will be the goaltending that will get blamed by the fans and the Toronto media.
The reality is that Dubas couldve locked Campbell up a year in advance for less money. Same goes for Sandin.

samsonov is a better backup, but campbell oof. there is a chance he could get back to what he was, but im not sure his confidence is going to get better under the Toronto spotlight
They have higher potential but haven't played well recently.
Campbell has issues where he can't move side to side fast enough. When you look at someone like Vasi, it's their bread and butter.

Well, the Leafs apparently could not "trust" Reimer. He appears to still have a career going. They wouldn't trust Freddy. He went to Carolina and won the Jennings with Raanta. Not too bad….and now Mrazek and Soupy find new teams that seem to "trust" them…..What is it exactly about these 2 that are so different? That Murray has won 2 Cup's before?…….Does that transfer well to a team stuck in round 1 for the last 20 years? Time will tell I guess, but after all these "tandem's" maybe other question's need to be asked?

leaf goaltending was weak last season, but that is not the real problem .. just new goalies will not change the character of the leafs .. and the character of the team starts at the very top .. you'll find the problems starting there

Guys… I've watched Samsonov since 2019… he's simply not good. There's a really good reason why the Caps let him walk for free instead of risking arbitration.
A tandem is good enough as the defense in front of them.
I think if you get one of them firing and all cylinders, the leafs will be fine

Petr Mazrek is the weak link in that goalie tandem. Matt Murray won 2 Stanley Cups and he has more of an upside than Soupy Campbell.

Are they a better "tandem"? Yes. Mrazek was an AHL goalie. However…NEITHER is better than Soup and IF they both are the goalies they were the last couple of years? Toronto is SCREWED. And Dangle is trying to play a little revisionist history here. WHEN Soup was HEALTHY (and in the playoffs), he was a FANTASTIC goalie. IF Toronto is relying on those 2 to be a BETTER goalie? Ummm…best of luck.

Problem with Samsonov is say he has a lights out season, the Leafs will be in the same boat they were in with Campbell; 1A with no salary cap room.

No you were more then comfortable with the leaf goalie tandem at this point last year, it took a while to find out, this years edition is even more of a gamble! Let’s see, don’t forget hindsight’s is 20/20
you all know that Murray can't catch a puck hey, like at all. Long time pens fan here, Murray was great in 2016 because no one realized his weaknesses, he was unknown went on a run with a great team. By 2017 he was already being exposed, people forget that fleury won 9 of the 16 wins on the way to that second cup. Writing was on the wall. Pens probably win a third cup if they keep fleury over murray that summer. Pens lost to the caps because all the caps had good shooters, ovi, oshe, etc all they had to do was shoot high glove. Watch the series. Murray never recovered, he is great down low in traffic that is about it.
