The jersey is a throwback and not a redesign. It’s what their jersey was in the 2000s.
Other change from the recent red jersey that weren’t covered: the numbering and lettering is different from the recent red jersey.
As for the “state”, you are correct, it’s the state of North Carolina in the empty space. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this, the current black jersey has the state in empty space between the two flags.
Other small corrections, the red is no longer the home jersey, the former black alternate is the primary home now. This will serve as an alternate that’s used in 12 games this season.
So the actual jersey count this year is likely the following:
Black home
Anniversary alternate
White away
Reverse retro
Stadium series
Whalers*
*If the reverse retro isn’t a whalers jersey then this one makes the list as they do still have a whalers night on the schedule just like recent years past.
Black jersey is the new home jersey for anyone wondering.
If I’m not mistaken, the Canes made an announcement a few weeks back saying that the black jersey was actually going to be promoted to being the regular home jersey. It’s possible that the red home jersey from the last few seasons has been retired.

OG '97-'06 looked this way so that is what Adidas has done. OG uniform was red shorts as well. OG had the silver shimmer as well. I'm probably getting 2 customs out of this being "97/HURRICANES" and "06/ STANLEY CUP" as its proper design versus '07 ones I have with same numeral name combos. I think this announcement makes way for silver RR for OG black.

It's a Carolina Hurricanes jersey alright. Not bad, nothing special.
Is it just me, or is the bottom striping on this and the new Sharks jerseys really thick? It basically takes up the bottom 1/3 of the jerseys.
The Hurricanes have gone from having one of my favorite uniforms to having the ugliest primary uniforms in the league.
the state outline is north Carolina because the hurricanes play in north Carolina
1) the black uniform is going to be the Canes’ new home this year, so it makes sense to see this return (perhaps that is the reason they did this, or vise versa. 2) American here, that geographical cutout on the anniversary logo is indeed the border outline of the state of North Carolina (where the Canes play). You can also see it on the more current storm flag logo! Even though a Penguins fan, I’m very excited to see this jersey, and I would honestly like this to become their home again at some point (although I’m not sure if you can have new jerseys three years in a row). However, if this did become the new home, I would like to see the away stay. I’ve got a thing for diagonal lettering on hockey jerseys (ie; see Penguins Alternate uniform).
I’m always a fan of the stick with the flags. The silver material is killer on this.

The bottom is awkward, goes way to high up and looks so weird…
There are several massive upgrades on the new jerseys. The stupid laces are gone. The striping around the collar is much cleaner and consistent. The black squares inside the red stripe on the bottom are much more visible. And the silver trim is so vibrant.
Make this the main home! And make a white version too, Canes!

Canes fan then I dought big time if you are going to part with the money for this particular jersey.
Personally I dont think it's difrent enough from the regular home jerseys it could do with a little bit more of the silver fleck effect going on in my view as it's an anniversary jersey after all.

I was a Canes fan but even at that I dont know if it's different enough to part with that much cash.
I like the red shorts as we would say or pants as you say in
North America I think black or silver with the fleck effect would perhaps look good aswell but I would need to see it first.
I would give it 6 out of 10 so it's a miss from me.

I see we’re going back to the “tropical storm” warning flags for the shoulders. I would have thought they’d have learned that lesson.
8.5/10. The C could be on the other side to balance things. Perhaps black pants with a red stripe to get the best of both worlds. Or vice versa. Banger uni.
There's just something about the red that Carolina uses that looks great no matter what. What I don't like about the jersey is the bottom. It's too busy for me and looks like a weird waist belt. I do agree black pants would be the right call here.
I disagree with the black pants concept. The whole reason of this jersey is to pay homage to the original uniform that started the franchise, putting black pants on this uniform set would have been a slap in the face to the team’s history. I am a Hurricane fan and think this jersey is a 10 out of 10 because this jersey was iconic to the franchise and made the Hurricanes stand out in the NHL. Plus, the attention to detail with the warning flag pattern at the bottom matching the logos and going along with the team name shows that there was some thought into this uniform set when the team first arrived in Carolina. Not bashing the video, just giving my opinion as a die hard Hurricane fan!
These jerseys are miles better than the black ones. It's like they're the Carolina Senators now that they'll be using them as the primary uniform. When I think of the Carolina Hurricanes, I think of this red jersey with the hurricane flag waist stripes, the italic numbers, the original hurricane logo, the single-flag shoulder patch, and the touch of silver that makes every other color pop. It is a classic and unique look that is honestly far better than that of many current teams. I think that the Canes are making a big mistake by deviating from their classic red uniforms in exchange for those ugly and uninspired black uniforms. These jerseys, with the red pants and helmet, should 110% be their primary look.
Don't know why they brought this back. Waste of money. They should've spent the money on a new away jersey and also should've made a blue Hartford jersey for the third.
