Ha, some reason i thought you were a ranger fan😂 1st rounder is huge for us, very surprised by the return. Great upside in lundkvist, hope he breaks out for y’all.
It is a risky trade, but I wouldn't call this a fleece. Lundkvist is gonna get a much better opportunity to play in Dallas, and this allows Miro to move back to his natural side on the left. On the Rangers side they got a 1st for a guy who was excess goods and wanted out. Not a bad deal of work for both teams. I'm happy that Nill is being aggressive and not pussyfooting like he normally does, especially with this load of prospects coming up through the system.
But how do you feel about the other pick going as well haha

How is this a bad trade?? I remember this Lundkwist kid as the Rangers would not part with him in an Eichel offer last summer. Remember this is Eichel and the Rangers still said no. So, unless this kid's stock took a total nosedive in the past year I say the Stars made out. Mobile right shot defenseman are coveted these days in hockey. I'm not sure how the Stars got fleeced IMO I think it's the other way around. Besides, the Star's pick was top 10 protected. This kid could boom any time.

Lundkvist showed he can be a great offensive d-man against elite grown up competition, he just never got the chance for more than 2-3 games to play that role. They put him in shutdown roles but that is the „average“ part of his game. This guy can score

Dallas not making the playoffs is assinine, lol jk. I actually think they'll be a good team. I think the new coach along with some good young players competing to make the NHL makes them better. Since 1995 he's only missed the playoffs 6 times as a head coach, I like those numbers.
Nill is a nice guy…but as a Stars fan it fits a need…and just might be worth a 1st. Good on NYR…but there is no guarantee picks work out..so we shall see!
Lundqvist is a good defenseman, but the Rangers have a strong defense and he wasn't at the point where he would crack the lineup

Lundkvist is a former first round pick who hasn't really lost his prospect shine. Why wouldn't he be worth a first round pick this year? Also, the Stars are set up with a lot of young players ready to break out.
A first round pick for an unproven third line pairing D man.This trade was barely worth a second round pick and instead a first round and a fourth maybe third.Furthermore when teams KNOW a player demands to be traded you don't meet that teams demands because he is a dead player on the roster.
Now as to the Stars making a move i happen to think they have several speedy little prospects that SHOULD be able to fill in spots without giving up a first round pick,this is poor management.
As to coaching desires it is not as simple as "wanting more offense from the defense"it is called playing SMART pinching in at the right moment and teammates moving into slots to help all over the ice.
Making the second pair?Haha i hardly think he is even good enough to be on the third pairing but Dallas has lost some D over the past couple years so there is an opening.Nils is very unproven so there is no such thing "the player he can be"he imo wasn't good enough to even make the Rangers lineup or a 6th or 7th guy ….a first round pick geesus management must have been drunk.
I think it could work out fine for both teams. Dallas has a lot of high calibre talent in the pipeline. Even if Stankoven and Johnston dont make the team at training camp, that's fine: They'll be in Cedar Park next season for sure, and most teams prefer their Juniors to complete their Junior career instead of making the jump to the NHL and getting smoked and depressed. It hinders rather than helps development.
BTW, I am a hardcore Stars fan. I rewatch games multiple times and really pick apart mistakes as well as smart plays, so what I'm about to say comes from doing just that:
As for Lindell: That dude is TERRIBLE. The only thing he's good for is killing penalties. He has correctly defended a 2 on 1 exactly ONE time in his entire NHL career. Either he's an idiot that can't learn or every single coach he's ever had in his entire life has failed him, which I doubt. We'll go with "He's an idiot," and yet he makes $5M a season and has an NMC… so they can't get rid of his stupid ass. Nill really screwed up on that contract.
Lindell needs someone who can make the breakout passes because he's not very good at them. Heiskanen makes some nice breakout passes, then turns around and makes an epic-stupid breakout pass which leads directly to goals against. Heiskanen needs someone to cover for him defensively and Lindell needs someone with offensive talent because he has none. They tried the Heiskanen-Lindell combo a few times last season but the experiments didnt last long, not even a full period. Put Lindell on the third line with Harley, MIller, or Hanley, and Suter on the second line with Lundkvist. You have to at least try thje Heiskanen-Lundkvist combo in camp and let Heiskanen play the left side, which he prefers but cant play because Suter sucks and can only play the left side. Heiskanen-Hakanpaa and Suter-Lundkvist might be a worthy combo too, but Lindell is terrible and his TOI needs to be reduced to thrid pairing minutes and penalty kill.
It'll be interesting to see what shakes out in camp.
One question..Your projected defensive pairings look right, but what does Dallas do with Colin Miller? He's making a decent amount of money, for what…a seventh defender – as per those listed pairings? Doesn't quite make sense to me, unless he's trade bait, or used in place of an injury
