This was about the dumbest signing you could spend on. I can name 5 other players better than him including 1 on his own team. After this coming year the AVS will regret this shit. For a player who never had a 100 point season.

I was so tired of every Colorado media team and every Avalanche fan saying that he will take a team friendly deal. Congrats you're all wrong lol The cap is flat for a bit and this "acceleration" won't be crazy jumps in cap space. I agree later in his career this will be a good deal but for now you're going to be in a tough spot signing a championship team. Some big contracts on that roster. And yes McKinnon deserved to be paid!!
I am going to throw out a couple names and the contracts to prove this is a good contract because he is an ELITE player.
So some in the media and SOME habs fans THINK 7.8 for Suzuki is a good contract and then the manager brought in his buddy Matheson at 4.4 mil.So those two habs add up to 12 mil a year would ANYONE of sane mind accept Suzuki and Matheson for MCKinnon?NOBODY would trade of McKinnon for those two any manager would laugh at the notion so tell yourself again that Suzuki's contract is good and tell Hughes that Matheson's contract is good.
To put it in perspective if i had Nathan i would not even accept Matheson/Suzuki AND Cole Caufield i would tell you to take a hike with that offer.You only pay Elite players big contracts you do NOT give very average players big money it handcuffs your chances to actually get ELITE players and to become a legit contender.Now we also have to consider the rumor the cap will continue to climb that makes the McKinnon contract a STEAL a VERY good contract.

I totally expected this to happen and I have no problem with the contract at all.
Habs need a no 1 center like MacKinnon, Suzuki, Dach, Monahan or Dvorak are not no 1 centers IMO.
People seem to forget or just not know that McDavid is the one that lowered his contact because he understands that a team needs to spread the cap around the whole team. Enjoy that cup Avs cause you won’t see another one with a roster that’s now hamstrung. Mac is a great player but this is an overpay for a guy that’s never won an Art Ross, Hart, Ted Lindsey or Conn Smythe.
That's an massive overpayment for a 27 old guy who choked majority of his prime years. His team got insanely lucky last year not having to play real contenders until the cup final. He is making more than mcdavid lmao. What a joke
I think it's kind of petty by MacKinnon. He could have taken 100k less/year to make McDavid money but he wanted to be paid like the top dog. We all know he's the #2 in the NHL, 32 of 32 GMs would take McDavid before him.

This is the kinda player you pay big money for, playoff players, not 60 goal scorers who disappear EVERY single playoffs.
This is a very team friendly deal as cap is suppose to be 96 million in two years he easily would have gotten 14 on open market, not only does he perform in the season but he is a big time player in the playoffs. This contract will age nicely. We are only going to see salaries go up when McDavid is due edmonton will give him probably around 18 million. People really aren't paying attention to how big the salary cap is actually going to get.
