I am not optimistic in the slightest about our new goalie. I think the Sprong trade was a huge mistake. In fact, the only draft pick I am happy with is Connor Brown. I am starting to lose faith in our GM. Having said that, I know his job is difficult. I am waiting to see how it all pans out.

Vanecek and Samsonov did not work out. It happens. Kuemper is a solid starter and Lindgren is a good backup.
Dylan Strome is on a one year make good contract. He is an excellent 2nd Line Center. The Blackhawks are in Cap Hell and couldn't afford to bring anyone back.
Backstrom had his hip resurfaced. Ryan Kesler had that same surgery and never played again. I believed that Ed Jovonoski played 33 games after a hip resurfacing and then retired. My younger sister had a hip resurfacing and eventually needed a full hip replacement. Backstrom should be more concerned about playing with his kids and living without pain. Backstrpm will go on LTIR and if he ever plays again, I will be shocked. Hagelin had a serious eye injury and will be on LTIR. Tom Wilson will be on LTIR until he returns later in the season. The LTIR will be about 13-14 million.
Conor Brown is an excellent defensive forward who can lock down the 3rd line wing and PK.
Brian McClellan had some money and did a good job filling the holes in net and at 2nd line center. Without Backstrom, 2nd line center would have been a gaping hole.

Zack Fucale deserves a hard look during preseason. Hes a legit goalie who got Washington their first shutout victory last year and looked solid in relief. He had one bad game and then never got another shot. He deserves better and should get a few starts this year.
Our goalie situation the last couple of years was a joke at best. There was zero consistency with either goaltender, more than not they played poorly. This impacts a whole team because if you can't get behind your goalie you have no team. I really hope this will bring positive change to the team.
I'm hoping that backstrum an Wilson both return an able to play like they r capable of
