  1. What can they do to be a contender though? They have a vezina caliber goalie, a Norris caliber dman, and some incredibly good wingers. Maybe move Jo’s contract and go for a #1 c?

  2. I think the Preds could beat out Minnesota for 3rd. They seem like they improved and I'm not sure if the Wild will be as strong as last year

  3. It’s tough for the Preds. They’re always good enough to be competitive but just not quiet good enough to be a serious contender. It keeps them in this weird place where they aren’t really getting any top picks leading to them not having that “star power” they kind of remind me of Minnesota before they got Kaprizov.

  4. I'd like to hear more of the reasoning on the Dante Fabbro praise. As a Preds fan I feel like I've seen him around a pretty high percentage of the broken plays/mistakes, and maybe thats just due to ice time.

  5. The season Filip Forsberg had was the type of season it seems every single person was waiting for. We all knew he had the skill to put up numbers like that but he never did it until this past year. Gotta think this is the new norm for him…

As for Duchene….I’m not convinced this is his norm. I think he was just feelin it…their scoring will always concern me a bit. Nino was a good pickup tho

  6. Prediction: 4th in the central (WC2)
Reasoning: I thought they had a sneaky good off-season which will keep them competitive but they still feel too mediocre to grab a top 3 spot, and now with Calgary getting kadri I think best case they sneak in at that last wild card spot.

  7. We saw their problems in this last postseason. They've got some great players, but not the kind who can match the top in the league, and they just don't have the depth to make up for it.

  8. Myself… and the fans of Nashville…. really like Tolvanen and WANT him DESPERATELY to have that breakthrough. He's very popular and it would be sad if he fizzled akin to Kevin Fiala. Lets hope he can flourish here and not somewhere else.

  9. Hey Shannon, you prob won't read this, but in regards to Sarros and other goalies getting "overworked", I think a part of the equation that no one talks about is the intensity and frequency of training / practices for players these days.

Medical staffs have greatly improved over the years, but I don't think it's enough to off set the extreme workload players have to deal with including training, practice, games and let's not forget about travel.

I've had similar feeling about pitchers in baseball. These guys are overworked so much outside of the actual games that a starter can barely get through 5 innings now.

  10. I wonder how long until Askarov is ready to jump over to North America. He and Saros could be a deadly goaltending tandem in the coming years.

  11. Lankinen really needs to help Saro's have a rest occasionally without detriment to the Preds. Juice was so key last season it really showed when he missed the playoffs. (Can't say they'd have beaten Colorado but I believe it would have been alot closer as a series)

  12. Super late to this, but the moves this offseason are beyond interesting. Idk how to even judge where this team will be come Feb. I hope McDonough can bring some championship mindset to a team that was very undisciplined throughout the year.

I will say that in terms of last season, Granlund had his best year since '15-16, not only points-wise, but in hits too. Tons of FO wins, and really deserved a lot more praise than what he got.

  13. The Preds were my team before the Kraken started playing and I’ve always been bullish on the Predators. And this year is no different. A lot of the top teams in the Centeal got weaker (especially the Avs) so with that, my boldest prediction is that the Preds will win the Central this year

  14. The Central remains strong, and the Preds are a solid enough team to compete. I question if they have the talent and prospects to truly challenge the elite of the division and conference

  15. honestly, as a Caps fan, Nashville is a dark horse for me, I can see them finishing 3rd in their division but go on a deep run, their d men and goalie are solid, center depth isn't bad but there's no one close to elite, wingers are good

  16. I agree with Shannon. They need a play-driving center, or a young player who can put them over the top

  17. Until we get rid of Poile and/or Hynes, the Pres will always be good or great. But never the BEST in the NHL.

  18. It’s a tough position for GMDP. You have a Norris candidate defenseman, Vezina candidate goalie, and two 40+ goal scorers. That should be a recipe for a cup contender, and he filled out some wholes in the lineup. But I still think they’re missing another scoring threat. Wish we could have gone harder in Johnny hockey, Tkachuk would have been nice but no one was beating floridas offer. I wouldn’t have wanted to sign that Kadri deal to that term so I think if the preds are going to make a run it will have to be with a trade deadline move

  19. I don't think the offense is enough to get it done. It's paper thin. Which is sad, because if they had the forwards to match Oilers, Avs, Lightning etc, they'd be in contention.

  20. Solid team that will likely need a big move to get over the top. Doubting that will happen. We'll see.

  21. I’d think Nashville could be a sneaky under the radar team to watch if they weren’t coached by John Hynes
