  1. It really sucks that Max Pacioretty is out for the first half, but when he does come back, the Canes will be a real threat going into the playoffs.

  2. Hopefully they use that LTIR money wisely. Either way, this team has been impressing me more and more over the last few years and this year should be no different! GO CANES!

  3. Appreciate coach! Unfortunately patches needs some stitches before he can play but I think that we will be in good shape

  4. Patches going down is pretty brutal for this team. He was supposed to be part of the solution to replacing the lost production from Nino and Trocheck. This team badly needs Kotkaniemi, Necas, and probably one other forward in the bottom 6 to really step forward and produce at an above-replacement level. I know you were on the Seth Jarvis train from Day 1, and him continuing to improve might be part of that equation.

Also, I know you kinda skimmed over the prospects here, but watch out for Jack Drury. This kid lit it up in the AHL, scored a couple big goals in the 2 games he was called up last season, and brings the total package. Chicago Wolves basically said after the season that they knew it was the last time they'd see him because he was ready for the big leagues.

You're right about the subtractions hurting. But you're also right about top teams needing to minimize the losses in the offseason. When you're spending to the cap and so many players want/deserve a pay raise, guys are gonna leave from time to time.

Ultimately, this team will go as far as the top 6 forwards will take them. KK had good underlying numbers last year in limited minutes and looked good when bumped up to 2C for a few games, but he HAS to replace Vincent Trocheck if the team wants to get to their goals. Aho and Svech need to continue to improve. Can Jarvis sustain his playoff success? Lots of questions. We'll see how it goes.

If Pacioretty comes back healthy on the timeline they're expecting (mid-February, early March) and he's back to his old self, I think you're right about this team being between Finals and Cup-or-Bust for expectations.

    Jarvelous video!

  5. Canes were always a fun team last year, but man am I going to miss the Niederreiter-Staal-Fast line, best pure shutdown line in the league last year and so pleasing to watch

  6. Whenever you start selling merchandise, you need to sell a banana sandwich shirt

  7. Really hope we can make it over the hump this year have a good feeling 🌪

  8. Love your content. Thanks for making a video about the Canes, can’t wait for the season to start and get your game breakdowns!

  9. Patches going down hurts for sure! A Slavin-Burns D pairing maybe one of the top 5, even top 3 D pairings in the league this season. Biggest question marks are if KK, Jarvis and especially Necas evolve. Necas has been so hit & miss. When he's on, he's really good. But he can disappear for a week+ which isn't good. Tony D Nino & Vinny moving on definitely hurts. Cole, Domi and Lorentz, not as much. Canes have been a scoring by committee team. They're going to need their stars to take that next step. Aho may never become a Crosby, Ovi, Stamkos, etc but, if he's going to lead this team, he needs to up it a notch.
Troch was at a point hoping for a long term to round out the majority of his prime years. Waddell has shown aside from stars, he's not giving that so Vinny walking isn't a suprise for what was offered by NY

  10. Always great information! Carolina is my pick out of the east. Doesn’t mean it’ll happen with Toronto, Rangers, Florida, Tampa to name just a few. Aho is one of my favorite players, and the addition of Burns will be significant. Glad Burns is out east as he always plays well against the Wild, kind of a grudge matchup for him. I agree with you, cup or bust….

  11. Canes have a beer and now their own team branded Pepsi. You know they gonna have some energy between the beer and soda if that’s the case

  12. This guy talks to Canes fans as if we have no idea what is going on! I played for team USA!!! I coached at a high level! I was a power skating coach to many pro players. There are many like me in NC! Many of us from northern US states and Canada have moved (escaped high taxes and high cost of living) to North Carolina. The triangle area is full!!!! The growth of this area is unmatched. This has brought many knowledgeable hockey fans here. It's really not a small market anymore. You see more Canes merch on the streets then I ever saw Rangers and Islanders stuff in NY.

  13. For me RBA took a step back in the playoffs last year. ZERO changes in the line up while losing every road game????? Zero changes to the PP that was completely ineffective???? DeAngelo and Smith were crap in the Rangers series. Smith should have been replaced by Bear at some point. When Aho was out with Covid RBA had Necas playing center on the PP. That unit was a success. He should have at least given that a try.
Gardiner= He will probably be a $4.1 mil healthy scratch most of the season! This was a ugly contract that has not panned out at all. I would rather see Chatfield in that spot. I would also like to see Necas at Center. Give him a longer leash to perform. I know defense first but some players are not all -round players. He was asked to work on his defense last year. He did improve but his offense took a hit. Let him play!!! Hopefully Bear is fully healed of his long term covid issues he had last year. The Canes have the scorers but play a system that will reduce the productivity of any goal scorer. Don't get me wrong I like and coach the same type of system. Defense first wins championships. Offense first systems (Leafs/Oilers) look great in regular season but will always fail in the playoffs. Aho would be a 40-50 goal scorer in a different system but has learned to play a solid two way game. I just think you may want to let one or two of these guys lose and see what they got. I guaranty Patches would have had a drop in production playing this system. The Canes won the Jennings last year. the GF and GA was fully acceptable.
