1. Jarmo says this isn't true. if you think about it, 11 other teams would have had to pass on McDonagh before the Jackets would have had a chance to claim him. This can't possibly be true.

  2. NHL should have a luxury tax. Why should any organization be punished by not being able to keep their own players?

  3. What's the point of having a NTC if you can still get traded? That just defeats the purpose of a NTC

  4. Ryan, we love you. However, if you don’t “cooperate,” your family, one-by-one, will be taken…..no offense, it’s just HOCKEY, baby…

  5. Ryan makes millions and millions of dollars, I don’t feel bad that he had to move two states over

  6. Columbus did that with Todd Marchant in the Federov trade with Anaheim. Waive NTC or be put on waivers and the same team will claim you.

  7. It's interesting, but I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be. MULTIPLE teams were interested in McDonagh. I am virtually certain that a better offer existed than Myers and Mismash. There's a difference between "go to X, or we're going to waive you and Y will claim you" and "go to one of A, B, C, D, E, F, G, or X, otherwise we'll waive you and Y will claim you." Giving McDonagh the option to pick the team he wanted to go to WAS showing him respect. This was giving him a say in his future, at the expense of the good of the Tampa Bay Lightning. They didn't have to do this. I never thought I'd be defending the freakin' Lightning (whom I cannot STAND), but they actually behaved in a better manner than was strictly required (in a business sense).

  8. So basically if McDonagh refuses this trade Montreal could of got him back for free flashbacks intensify

  9. Oh damn, how shitty, u just went to 3 cup finals and won 2, boo hoo, sorry kids we gotta pack up and go to a great city in Nashville, how sad….business is business. Period. No sympathy here.

  10. Would love to have seen McDonaugh come back to the Rangers had that been possible…

  11. The dude making 7 million dollars a year had to move to a more affordable city…. that's what happened

  12. Ths is clickbait-ish, just the nature of the business.

  13. Mconadgh is not worth the money at all, big mistake by Nashville. This old fart is overrated and overpaid!

  14. GIO: As a JETS fan, my complaint against the Jets management is this. Pro Sports IS A BUSINESS. People are hired to GET THE JOB DONE. If I can't do my job, I get fired! What happened here is simply business as you eluded too. Moving this or any other player IS DOING YOUR JOB. Please show me the positives created by "Jets Management" in the past 3 years. After "Buffy" walked the team imploded. No back up goaltender- COMRIE can be traded for a case of toilet paper IMHO. A week defence, and the team plays like a bunch of individuals.

  15. If it was me, my first instinct would be to say, “okay, go for it. Waive me.”

  16. As a Rangers fan watching this guy for many years, I was sad when he left for Tampa. Beyond happy for the guy that he went on 2 cup runs with Tampa. It’s too bad it didn’t work out in the end but I can’t wait to se him in yellow playing for the Preds

  17. It always turns out like this when teams are up against the cap. The Fleury trade from Vegas and the Hornquist trade from the Penguins are 2 examples where it was ugly….

  18. Job relocations happen every day, and most make less than $250k a year. Sure the relocation companies will pay for the move, sometimes. Sure the kids may need some counseling to adapt, sometimes… I think Ryan and his family will survive, and I think they can afford the move and counseling, if needed, on their own. Go win another cup Ryan, you’ll be fine.

  19. I didn’t know you could be waived if you had a not trade clause. At least he got his cups.

  20. Columbus just picked up a top-4 defenseman in the draft with Jiricek. If Boquist pans out and guys can stay healthy, I like the Blue Jackets' blue line. Don't forget about Werenski and Gavrikov back there too. So, even if this story holds water, the Blue Jackets look like they found defensive value elsewhere.

  21. it was either lose palat + Rutta or paul, or lose mcdonagh who has the worst contract on the team. If you are willing to waive a 7 million dollar player, that just goes to show how bad they needed him gone. you dont build championship teams by being the nice guy. I wouldnt say thats ruthless either lol, players know that a NTC does not protect you from waivers when they sign the contract. its just very rare that a 7 million dollar player gets thrown on waivers. it was 100% the correct move to put a better hockey team on the ice

  22. Honestly they could have just not said anything and put him on waivers. Tampa took the more professional approach by letting him know and offering him a choice. The guy is 34 years old and definitely slowing down. If they keep him they lose out on some of their younger more skilled players

  23. although what TB did was legal it was still disrespectful and not ethical at all…..TB may have been doing their job but the method they used will hurt the team in the long run as players will now want both a NTC but also a NMC so will come back to haunt them

  24. The NMC can be a big part of contract negotiations. It's interesting to note the Avs who have it: EJ, Landy, Nuke. Makar & Rants do not. Seems only UFAs get them…

  25. I disagree. Tampa likely explained the situation. I'm sure Ryan knows the deal. Let us trade you wherever you want, because we can't keep you and would
otherwise have to waive you. I'm sure that wasn't an ideal situation for either party.

  26. If you just consider the poor play that he was consistently producing and at a point anytime that the other team's chances of scoring was greatly improved. With minimal offensive production and worse defense Tampa was making the best choice. Proof is in his play in the last Cup series. how many goals or assists did he have vs goals scored while he was on the ice ?

  27. He was the worst bolts player in the playoffs…glad he's gone
