  1. There is an short term solution which is the Footprint Center, which used to be AmericaWest Arena. This is where the Phoenix Suns play, and where the Coyotes played between 1996 and 2003 when they moved to Glendale. Footprint Center is a suboptimal solution for the team for a variety of reasons. There are a number of obstructed view seats particularly in one part of the upper deck which juts out over about a quarter of where the ice surface would be. They loose 1,000 to 2,000 seats for hockey just from those obstructed seat locations. If the problems with the Tempe Arizona site can be worked out – the big problem seems to be that the Tempe site is a former solid waste compost yard, and there are environmental remediation issues to be resolved – the Footprint Center could serve as an short term location for the Coyotes for the two to three years it would take to build the new arena.

Or they could just move them to Saskatoon. Which isn’t quite as far fetched as it seems. During the Coyotes’ bankruptcy, one of the prospective owners, Ice Edge, suggested splitting the Coyotes’ season between Phoenix and Saskatoon, with about a quarter of the team’s home games being played in Saskatoon. If the attendance in Saskatoon was significant;y better than in Phoenix, more games could be scheduled in Saskatoon and maybe the team would eventually move here full time. Needless to say, the proposal was rejected.

  2. I was thought Utah could sustain another team with how over the Jazz are there, and their arena is really sweet too

  3. I know ya'll want Quebec to have a team again but if the Coyotes do relocate it will most likely not be to Canada. I feel if they are to relocate it will be to Kansas City or Houston.

  4. My list in order of the places that I think have the best chance to land the Coyotes if they Relocate.
    1. Houston
    2. Kansas City
    3. Atlanta
    4. Quebec
    5. Milwaukee
    6. New Orleans
    7. Oklahoma City
    8. Salt Lake City
    9. Indianapolis
    10. Baltimore
    11. Saskatoon
    12. San Diego
    13. Cincinnati
    14. Cleveland
    15. Portland

  5. This franchise will not move to Quebec. Everybody needs to get over Quebec.
No Eastern Conference team will agree to move to the Western Conference to accommodate a relocation to Quebec. No Western Conference team will approve a relocation to Quebec because it will increase the already significant travel costs they must deal with.
Either the Coyotes pay the back rent to Glendale, a gn a short term lease and get a new arena built in Phoenix/Tempe/Scottsdale, or the owners sell to the Houston Rockets ownership and the franchise becomes the Houston Aeros. There was the Aeros in the WHA, IHL and AHL.

Jeremy Jacobs, the Bruins owner, wants Houston. He does not want Quebec. The lower value of the Canadian dollar, higher taxes in Canada and Quebec and the French language and issue are all impediments to a team relocating to Quebec.
That, and the imbalance between the Eastern and Western Conferences. So, no Quebec.

  6. Move them to Québec. NHL ready arena, a proven fan base. Forget any american maybe market.

  7. Ottawa Senators is an option for Quebec. Their arena situation isn't drawing enough seats due to location.

  8. As a Houstonian, I would bawl over a team coming here. I became a fan of hockey and the Aeros the day I saw them play in person. I tried to make as many games as I could, but once they've moved, I have little interest in going out of my way to a game.

What sucks is that there's so much money potential here. I get that a small percentage of Houston is a fan or seems to have a little interest for hockey. If you put a team here, people will care. The reason no one here cares about hockey is because there's no reason to. Does the NHL expect people in Houston to root for Dallas? Till pigs fly. Houston is full of pride and it runs in most Texans. People from Dallas come down regularly for games and vice-versa. I just came back from one the other day for baseball. Just give us a team and we'll watch hockey.

  9. The lack of success and crappy ownership since being in Arizona has been what has hurt this team the most. I feel so bad for their fans, they don’t deserve this. I remember when I was in in middle and high school when the Winnipeg and Quebec left and feeling terrible for the fans and also that Canada had lost 2 teams. I actually like the Coyotes branding, their home and away jerseys are pretty cool and the Kachina jerseys were good too. Houston makes more sense geographically, but i still see some risk. Houston is a heavily populated city which is good potential for a strong fan base, but I don’t know..it’s still a southern team and it may not work, especially if they aren’t successful on ice.
    I want the Nordiques back!

  10. Oakland tweeted to them said they can call the Oakland Coliseum/Arena home. Not sure if they will relocate there and have the Seals come back, but it's definitely open and ready to go. Quebec City will most likely snag them over Oakland though. San Jose would probably try and block an Oakland move as well. Who the hell knows whats going to happen to those Desert Dogs lol.

  11. They'll either move to other Arena in city, build a brand new arena in Tempe or Relocate to a list of cities like Houston, Quebec City, Milwaukee, Portland, SLC, Kansas City or Austin

  12. if they want to stay in arizona the only way that can happen is to move temporarily to talking stick resort arena until the tempe arena is built

  13. I’m keeping hope we keep them. But they need out of Glendale even if it’s till a new stadium is built we love our hockey her in as it’s just hard to make games where they are with traffic, start time and more. They should have never left the phx valley

  14. Portland, OR would be a great relocation choice. Great rivalries with the Kraken, Canucks and Sharks.

  15. Cope. They're going to Vegas and it will be a beautiful day when they leave the blackhole known as Glendale.

  16. I could see Oklahoma City or New Orleans as big enough to support a team. They both already have basketball, so the arenas could be outfitted for hockey

  17. If Houston does get an NHL team I hope we can bring back the Aeros if not The Apollo’s!

    🤷🏾‍♂️

  18. Yes come to Houston! As a born and mostly raised Houstonian we would greet you with open arms. There are enough affluent neighborhoods where the games is growing. Grow the game. Wouldn't know what to do since I'm a Caps fan from my time in DC

  19. If the Coyotes relocates than the four possible cities i see are: Houston, Quebec City, Saskatoon and Kansas City
If not than maybe Going back to Phoenix.

And the possible relocation team names could be:
    Houston Aeros
    Quebec Nordiques
    Kansas City Scouts
    Saskatoon Coyotes?

  20. Footprint Center is not an option. The Suns have made it clear they refuse to share it even on a temporary basis. Plus it's sightlines are bad for hockey as it wasn't designed with hockey in mind, hence why Gila River Arena was built in the first place. Also a recent renovation made a hockey configuration impossible.

State Farm Stadium is off the table because this venue is also in Glendale, and the city has evicted the team.

The Veterans Coliseum is ancient and the Coyotes would have to spend a bundle just to get it up to NHL standards, even as a temporary home. Since they'd be abandoning it in a few years anyway, it'd be a waste of money.

Oceanside Ice Arena is way too small, seating only about 5,000.

Seems to me Chase Field is the only option as a temporary home, but even then they'd have to build a locker room which seems pointless if they'll only be there a few years anyhow.

I will be very surprised if this team is still in Phoenix next year.

  21. If the Coyotes leave AZ (which they are def overdue), I still think AZ deserves to have a pro hockey franchise. I'd love to see Arizona to be home of the ECHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets!

  22. When has putting the NHL in Arizona ever been a good idea to begin with? Any other motherfucker as NHL Commish would have moved them AGES AGO! 🤣

  23. Oh. How to go back to the 70's expansion draft. So much bullshit today.

  24. Houston would fail just like Atlanta has. Major markets in the south are a huge gamble. Small markets like Nashville and Tampa work great. Quebec is the safest option and most deserving. I do think Salt Lake City would be cool and again a smaller market that would likely embrace hockey. Winter sports are big in that area. I've wondered if Indianapolis could support an NHL team, but they are close to Columbus.

  25. Why not the north stars, if minisoda is the hockey state of America then could it support 2 teams, but the trade mark tho.
