  1. I know there's other factors involved, but it's crazy how they went to a Conference finalist to one of the worst teams in the league once they lost Pavelski.

  2. It’s a shame Shannon hated the sharks so long becuase teal is actually his best color as regards skin tone and general northern latitude pasty goodness

  3. Cheechoo is the most bizarre trivia answer for "which San Jose player holds the team record for most goals in a season with 56?"

  4. Man I miss the glory days. Still probably another 3-4 years away from being in any kind of playoff conversation but hopefully the new management starts steering us in the right direction. Although this off season doesn’t have me convinced.

  5. I expected to see Goldobin on the busts, but didn’t realize the Canucks played him so much.

  6. Thanks for the run down, Shannon.
Just to add a waaaay out of left field comment…… I really enjoyed Scott Nichol when he played for the Sharks. The guy went 100%, 100% of the time.
Also, maybe one of these years Dish Network will reinstate my ability to actually watch Sharks games on my t.v.

  7. For being a team that is 30 years old with no cups, they have a pretty rich history. Having two 1000/1000 guys in Marleau and Thorton certainly helps but things like beating Detroit back in the 90s still gives them roots. Even then, they truly seemed like they either overachieved or underachieved, never actually meeting expectations. One thing was certain though, you could count on the guys between the pipes. The goalies that have come from San Jose is impressive so it's interesting to see them try and navigate what's happening currently.

  8. You seem to have switched the digits, Marleau played 1,607 games with San Jose for anyone scrolling through the comments. Great video Shannon as always

  9. I remember when they came into existence and really jumped on board in their 91-92 season. I was so hopeful for Pat Falloon to be the next great superstar of the NHL back in the day. Ah….no, that didn't happen.

  10. I absolutely loved the Schrödinger reference Mr. Hockey Guy. I am assuming you are a TBBT fan, like I am…

  11. I’m hoping you doing the Sharks last means they’ll get the #1 overall pick! Suck hard for Bedard!

  12. I appreciate the stats here, but if I could suggest something for future "history of" videos, talk about famous storylines/moments. Stats are cool and all but anyone can look at these on a team's website.

Sharkie getting stuck above the ice before a game. Owen Nolan calling his shot in the all star game. The Pavelski Payback. Things like that that won't be found on a stat sheet.

  13. All-time highs – Double OT win game 7 in Calgary 1994-95 "Shut Theo Fleury up!!!" Owen Nolan's center ice slap shot that beat Roman Turek late in third period game 7 to beat President Trophy winning St. Louis in 1999-00 "Chris Pronger was disappointed … Priceless!" All-time lows – 2008-09 President Trophy winning Sharks open playoffs vs Anaheim and lose 1st two home games and then series in 6 … I needed medical attention after that series! And then having to listen to Darryl Sutter in his snide way say "The Sharks thought they had the series when they were up 3-0" in that series LA came back to win 4 straight!

  14. It’s funny you say “they didn’t have a barn to play in.” The Cow Palace looks like a barn, and has all of the amenities of a barn. If I’m remembering correctly hockey capacity for them was 10,880. According to Wikipedia the NHL rink they played on was smaller than regulation for 91-93.

  15. Just got to point out that you said Marelau played 1067 games for the Sharks but it's 1607. Kind of an important distinction considering he is the all-time games played leader in NHL history. Also important to note that Bonino never played a game for us after being drafted as he was traded away and only signed back with us recently so I don't know if that's a good pick for us when we didn't develop or play him.

  16. So for all the talk about "playoffs", the Sharks have made it out of the 1st round, 3 times since 2012. Mediocre at its finest.

  17. Oh man the pain i just experienced hearing you list all of their playoff losses. Its all coming back!

  18. The Sharks were the reason I got interested in sports and players. They were the first team I remember watching live. Growing up in San Jose, I attended around 500 games including the playoffs between 98 and 2014.
However, after 20+ years with multiple heartbreaks in the months of April, May, and June and not a single Stanley Cup to reminisce on when times got tough (like 2020-now), I emotionally divorced from the team when my fav player, Thornton, finally left for Toronto.
It took Marleau signing with Toronto, Pavelski signing with Dallas, and Thornton (my fav player for over a decade) leaving for Toronto in 2019 to slam the door on the whimsical years of being excited to attend Sharks games and enjoy hockey with other Sharks fans.
Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl are the only Sharks players left from those years, and to see them still not have a single championship for all their talent and hard work during the 2010's breaks my heart.
If this team ever won a Stanley Cup when Marleau/Thornton/Pavelski led the team, the entire league would have a different perspective on the Sharks franchise. Instead, they are a punchline and a measuring stick for disappointment and choking. "Don't pull a Shark!" is now a phrase I use at other sporting events when a team has a 3-0 lead during a game.

  19. Marleaus games played is a typo. It's 1607, not 1067. He's not quite that effective 😅

  20. The jersey you are wearing is the first ever jersey I ever owned. Went to a game with my dad at SAP and he got me one to wear.

  21. Blowing a 3-0 lead to the Kings was one of the worst and most depressing experiences I've ever had as a Bay Area Sports fan.

  22. Sharks fan from the beginning. The Sharks just haven't been the same since the departure of Pavelski. Now the huge disappointment with Evander Kane.
