I think Florida and Edmonton did the opposite of what they should have. The Oilers new a coach that does more than lets his players free style for everything, they need a better defensive structure. The Panthers just didn't show up for the playoffs, besides one player for the first round.
This is just as bad a hire as Philadelphia bringing back John Tortorella
You got a good coach, Panthers. He really knows his hockey. Hopefully he’s a match for the players there, he deserves a cup.

He's the perfect fit imo. The Cats are a high powered offensive juggernaut who's only real weakness was their defence, or lack of it. With Maurice's systems hopefully they can shore it up and not blow anymore leads.

This move is a head scratcher, if they went out and got a proven Cup winner thats one thing, but Paul Maurice has not done well in the playoffs. Best wishes for Andrew Brunette.
They needed an old stern faced white guy and Q is not rehirable (yet). That leaves PM. Randy Carlyle is next. Unless Babcock is back on Gary's Okay To Hire list by then.

Hate this move. Presidents trophy, runner up for coach of the year, and yet they hand the team over to a guy who quit on his last team and admitted that he doesn’t have it anymore.
I don't get this. Brunette got us the Presidents Trophy; a few small adjustments makes us a likely cup winner. I hope Bru gets another great gig. Let's Go Panthers !!!!!

What a slap in the face to Brunette who did an amazing job being thrown in to replace Quenneville like that. I could see replacing Brunette if they could land Trotz, but apparently he only wants Winnipeg IF he coaches this year. Why replace Brunette with a known quitter like Maurice? 🤦🏼♂️
Maurice had 1 excellent season 2017-18 with the Jets finishing 2nd in the NHL and making conference finals, and one Stanley cup final 20 years ago. It's a slap in the face to ask Brunette to stay as an associate coach after the amazing season he had.

Tb was dominant in special teams, blocking shots, and staying disciplined. Not to mention playing a full sixty. It’s more than “Goalie’d”
Bob was really good in the regular season and the playoffs, if they trade him they better be sure that they can replace him.
Pomo's came analysis are always enjoyable. Looking back what happened with jets it's really difficult to approve he's as good coach as he is a media person
Maurice is moving to coach a playoff ready team that could win the cup, I'm sure they can do it with Maurice behind the bench. I'm a little unhappy they fired a coach who did great for Florida's season and their Playoff run though. They did exceptionally well for their first playoff run in several years, so like I said I'm a bit at odds over hiring a new coach.
Hire Jalonen hoist the cup next year.
Hire Maurice and tank to get 1st pick next year.

Wtf was Zito smoking when he made this move. Yea pp sucked but I'd rather get a new pp coach and assistant coach to help Bruno continue on from the best regular season we've had.
Now we get this guy. To add to that the rumors on trading Bob. I'm really nervous this team may miss the playoffs entirely next season.

I always have a hard time figuring out if a coach looks for players to fit his system or taylors the system around players ability. Maurice has had skilled forwards and a good/really good goalie in hellybuck and I can’t figure out which he is?
As a Winnipegger I have no idea what the Panthers saw in Paul Maurice, however I'm pretty sure the Maurice deal plus the announcement that Pierre Luc Dubois wants out, helped kill the Barry Trotz deal. The problems with the Jets are complex and that makes recruiting talent next to impossible.
Well I guess Trotz was never on the table. I hope he leads us to the promised land.

When you have a great regular season on a team that's all in for the cup, then get swept, you will get fired. I dont get how that's surprising for people. Maurice will do well.
Like you I have a lot of love for Maurice from that '02 run but I don't think he's going to be the guy to put the Panthers over the top.
How quickly we forgot about florida's powerplay in the playoffs.
He was a mediocre coach that stayed the coach way too long then Jets fans wanted, he allowed toxic behavior in the dressing room and didn't let Ehlers or Laine to shine by playing older winger in wheeler over younger better Tallant, the pk was always horrible and his pp was so predictable for other teams to defend against, he was a bad coach that wasted a team that would have won the Stanley Cup with a good coach
