At $7 mil, Pacioretty is an anchor. Long history of lots of missed games and less than a PPG. Just getting a team to take that cap hit without a sweetener is a big win.

This is not as bad a trade as others are making it out to be, Pacioretty always gets injured and misses a lot of games.
'Canes would be lucky to get 30-40 games out of him with 20-25 goals; if used sparingly may be useful down the stretch and in the playoffs
but wouldn't be expecting much.
This amounts to a free rental of a borderline useful player.
Players are realizing how great it is to play and live in North Carolina!!!!! Your money goes way farther there than in Canada or northern and west coast USA. The fan base is awesome! This area if filled with relocated northeners escaping high taxes who know hockey. (Like me) Tons of Canadians are moving here as well. Parents are moving here from up north so their kids can play youth hockey here. The youth hockey is awesome here. Tons of great coaches (Power skating, goaltending) from up north have set up shop in the Raleigh area. The youth hockey is being coached by former NHL player from the Hurricanes and players that have never even played for the Canes. Hockey is alive and well in North Carolina! It is no longer the small market you Canadians wont to believe it is! HMI (Hockey Mimistries International hockey camps took a chance by having a camp in Raleigh 15 years ago. We struggled to get 30 kids for that first camp. Now there is a waiting list with twice the amount of kids being turned away then are able to come to camp. GO CANES!!!!
Now if Don Wadell can some how get someone to take Jake Gardiner off his hands to give room to sign Necas and maybe Nino Niederreiter he would be a hall of famer GM!!!!!
With reports that the Canes are still angling to re-sign both Niederreiter and Necas, they have the potential to have the strongest Top 9 in the Metro by a wide margin. If Waddell swings those deals, he's a genius.
Also, Kase is likely the 3rd or 4th line RW, depending on how much the Canes value the Staal-Fast pairing on the 3rd.

This is a perfect type video and topic and I hope this doesn't really happen because vegasis so bad at the whole idea of cap compliance and not knowing if a guy your trying to trade has a no trade list but with Matthew Tkachuk being the new shiny new toy that the flames are gonna probably try and trade because he doesn't want to be there I don't know how but I have this weird feeling Tkachuk ends up in Vegas because Vegas has to get all the shiny new toys even when it doesn't make sense from a salary cap side but that's my hunch Matthew Tkachuk will be a Vegas Golden Knight and I wanna be wrong about that but crazy hunch
