Every video you showed of a good goal with a "kicking motion" actually shows the player moving his leg infront of the pathway of the puck. Thats not a kick. Coleman was a kick. Look at the positioning of his leg, bent and below him before his right leg gets caught in smith's pads. When he connects with the puck, his leg is now fully stretched out and 1-2 feet infront of him. Thats a kick. NO GOAL!!

if there was ever a moment for the "oilers fan steve" persona its now.
you know – Kelly Hrudy comes off as probably one of the nicest guys on the planet – but he is horribly mis-cast in his role as a major network commentator . . . .his vacuous bleating about that kick-inn goal being legit should cost him his job. the intent was clear to everyone but him and fellow Flames fanatics who were willing to allow their eyes to lie.
i was going to root for the oilers after they won, but seeing once again how disgusting and rabid oilers fans are even when they win, i am going back to wishing on their downfall. no wonder no player wants to play for the oilers an those who get drafted to them have the reaction of digust, the players just hate their fans so much, and rightfully so, no one likes edmonton as a city or their fans or the team

It should be a good goal for 3 reasons,
1. No matter what it would have gone in,
2. He was pushed into the puck, so if it was kicking, it was partly on the Edmonton Oilers.
3. He had no purpose to touch the puck with his skate.
Honestly the only part that matters is the last part, my designation of the NHL rules, is if he purposely touched the puck with his skate, even if he never meant to shot it, but there was no purpose to, so

both the ottawa and vegas goals were re-directs. They moved their skate in way to change the direction of the puck. that is why they counted. Colemen's kick was never a redirection. He pushed the puck in the net. That is the difference between them. it was the right call
