  1. Hard to disagree, honestly.

Sure, there are American teams with some tough media members. Some cities where, when things are going bad it can be difficult to live a normal life. But… let's get real. Compare those places to Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal and it's not even in the same universe…

Conversely, on some American teams in non-traditional or Southern markets the players can live their lives in relative anonymity. Oh… and they get to keep more of their money to boot. Oh… and the arena is packed on a good night. I mean… I don't really blame players for wanting to head south for greener pastures and this is coming from a proud Canadian hockey fan.

  2. I'm throwing his legit game jersey that I got 5 years ago on the ice when he plays in Calgary.

Plus.. let's be honest. Johnny is only good in regular season games. Then he tanks. Good riddance. You'll never win a cup.

  3. “Columbus is…(not even my first choice, cuz Philly had no cap space. I didn’t really want to play here)”

  4. If the Cup was important to you, you never would have went to Columbus lol, oh well fuck Calgary anyways

  5. Love to see a player of his caliber pick a squad with his heart rather than his wallet

  6. So excited to see him come to CBUS!! Can't wait to watch you next season

  7. Calgary and Albertans are all about freedom and free enterprise… except for their hockey players!

  8. One thing I have not heard anyone mention is now he doesn't have to cross the border every time he wants to visit family, like when he was in Calgary. In this way he is closer to family. Also not as much notoriety in Columbus, he can probably go to McDonalds without anyone knowing who he is or getting hounded for an autograph.

  9. He chose Columbus because he gets to play with Laine. But most importantly he wanted a small market team with a tame media. Canadian media is hell.

  10. I know guys like him who would rather just do their job without constantly being scrutinized and second-guessed. I totally get it. Years of that left an unfavorable impression on him, and I think going home would’ve been more of the same. He’s a man who values his mental health more than his pocketbook. I can respect that. He gets to play with a promising Sillinger and a reliable Laine anyway, so it’s all good.

  11. The media and fans no wonder Johnny bounced welcome to Tiny Town Ohio

  12. You people are clueless, the real reason he moved to Columbus is to be near the Jeni's and Graetor's ice cream factories.

  13. People can do what they want , its there mind and there body , i love how so many peeps on here think he needs to do what DA Man tells him he should do , kinda sounds like socialism, o wait , Canadian’s are in this thread i forgot
