bouchard has one year left on his contract. then he will want to be paid. if you keep Barrie running the pplay, that will keep Bouchard's next ask lower. If you want to play that game, that is . Not sure what the Oil will do, but the quiet re: McLeod/Yamo makes me think something significant is up. Oil don't need Phil, they need a tough top 4 dman, and a tough winger or two. That is what they need.

Given how difficult the fans and management of the team has talked about JP (not highly positive), I wouldn't be surprised if he would do better on another team. At the same time, slotting Kessel into the lineup (if he can be acquired at a decent AAV) could provide the team with some Veteran experience (who also won a Cup) and a measure of toughness for some of the younger guys too.
As for Barrie, given his cap hit vs his overall benefit to the team, I'm in agreement that he is likely a prime trade target too. With Foegele however, IMO it would be a poor decision to get rid of him for the same reasons, but then stranger things have happened….
1st the Oilers aren’t contenders but pretenders, why? Cause they have one of the worst defensive cores among playoff teams,,, now you remove Barrie, Keith and add Broberg ( that you hope is ready) and unless that kid is a Calder candidate you have an even bigger hole than last year,,, they will be ok in the regular season in the playoffs they will be exposed again , they would need 2 top 4 Ds to that core to be comfortable and I don’t see that happening, they can’t afford it and the salary structure is too unbalanced,,, I see Oilers fans saying with Campbell and a healthy Nurse we will make the finals,,, if you think that you really didn’t watch how they lost in the conference finals , you can blame Smith all you want, easy to do, but Smith is not the one who coughed up the puck over and over and over!
Phil Kessel hates attention. Edmonton is a fishbowl, the exact place he would not want to be. I would be stunned if he agreed to go to Edmonton.

Players are being paid TOO MUCH! They need to lock them out again and get these GM's under control. They need to have a LIMIT! NO PLAYER should make over 8 million. And only a few players should make that much. The salaries are too high for the cap. There are a LOT of things broken about the NHL. Whenever you hear more about money than the game, you KNOW the system is broken.
How do you know all of this is going to happen? There haven't been any rumours recently

LOL if Kessel is asking 2.5-3M he can take a hike. Yes, he can score, but if he wants to WIN, he'd have to take a LOT less than that. I'll take Yamamoto at 3.5M x 4 Years than Kessel at 2.5-3M.
dont need kessel when they have holloway/bourgault, 1/2 should make/play on the 3rd line this year. Everyone jumps on trading Barrie & while his defensive game could improve, he brings alot offensively and does a pretty good job on the top PP line. I think Barrie will bounce back next season, and if the opportunity is there send him off at the deadline
Kessel is definitely not going to Edmonton…tf. He makes bank in Arizona, keeps top dollar he makes via deductions, and not only that but has won 2 cups in the US. If anything, he stays in the US. He was in Toronto and got nowhere. Oilers are no different. PASS ON THESE RUMORS.

Oilers are going to stink up the rink this season. The fact that losing Duncan Keith makes their D even worse than last season is really telling.

#97 AND #29 the last 3 seasons in games they don't combine for a combined 3 .25 ppg the Oilers are a bottom 3 team, absolutely terrible.

Yamamoto just signed for two years, and with LTIR they're about 400k over the cap. They will be trading Foegle, as Dylan Holloway has forced himself into the left side of the forward group. McLeod will sign for about 1.2 mill, and they may try and get Kessel but no way for more than 2 mill. They don't need to.
Oilers need to trade Nurse if some team is willing to take his 9.25M contract.

I think the main thing Holland is waiting for is the outcome of the Kane Arbitration. If Kane wins and Kane technically becomes property of Kane's contract, the Oilers may need to trade off a player to SJ to convince them to trade him back to Edmonton. I think Foegle might be the best option to free up the cap space needed to sign McLeod and stay under cap with the rest of the other RFA's that have already been signed. I think JP will be a later trade bait and Barrie a possible 2nd player if the Oilers need a bigger impact player before the deadline
I don't think Kessel would be a worthy trade for Edmonton tbh. we need a younger faster player to keep up with our forwards. All 3 of our top lines are fast skating players and Kessel is slowing down.

We don't need has been Kessel in Edmonton. Our offense is doing just fine. Pulijiarvi will be traded. Barrie may go but we will need a pretty decent defenseman in return.
I think get rid of Barrie but pick up Kessel and Subban spark plug those 2
No one's dumb enough to trade for Barrie unless EDM retains a bunch of the salary

Kessel's contribution to an nhl team is his ability to score goals, he played 82 games last year and scored 8 goals. he's washed up why would anybody sign him.
Trading Tyson Barrie to create space to sign Kessel? I don't think so – that would be so foolish. Trading Barrie for cap space to keep up snd coming player is what Edmonton should be thinking. Get rid of Pulijujarvi! Let him spread his wings and succeed. Edmonton just has to get a player in return who adds grit, can take a regular shift and is the same age or younger…and forget Kessel.
