On the Hamonic front, many thought that was Pierre McGuire's doing. Funny enough, all of the big moves Dorion's made have come after McGuire was fired.
That Stutzle contract is risky but great upside, I don’t like him in his diving but it could be great Ottawa. He Looks like he could be dominant on the power-play given by his numbers but that inherently makes his other numbers look bad. He was in the 15th percentile for defensive game which is really bad but he was in THE 13TH PERCENTILE when it came to even strength offence, that’s because he had 45% (26/58) of his points on the PP, that also means his PP was pretty good percentile wise. If he can improve that even strength then it could be a great contract. I don’t think he will be good defensively judging by this year because he was downright awful.
This is refreshing. I listen to Sens insiders all the time. You guys are definitely not Sens insiders.
Sens have 4 guys pretty much right around 8 Mil and only one of them isn't a overpay (Chabot). People need to stop acting like Ottawa is doing something insane they aren't they're just paying guy over their value that's not how good GMs work
Murray did have better goals saved above expected than Talbot. I'm still happy with the change. Murray was all over the place for 2 years. Could he play great? Sure. Did the team believe in him? Not anymore.
Your cheap Stutzle 'dive' comment was a turn-off – same yapping the defeated Americans claimed about the great Team Canada women.
Zub is a top 4 D. That's the last guy to question in the top 4. Zaitsev was the problem, and Hamonic isn't a top 4 Dman. Zub will make 4-5 million and play in a top 4 role no matter what team he is on. Why you haiting on him when there are 2 much worse players.
Zub is a very solid top 4 d man, it’s zaitsev that’s the problem. They need one more right handed top 4 dman
On Hughes vs. Stuetzle, they both signed after their second seasons, but Hughes is a year older so comparing his third year (after signing) to Stuetzle's second (before signing) isn't a good comparison. Their points pro-rated for 82 games for their first two seasons are Hughes 28 and 45, and Stuetzle 44 and 60. Hughes had a huge breakout year in his third year. Should one assume Stuetzle will do the same? Maybe not. But the points in favour are that he played at about a point per game after he switched to centre (his natural position) and this season he'll centre DeBrincat and Giroux instead of Connor Brown and Alex Formenton. So given the choice between signing the guy now, or waiting a year, I think it's obvious that you should sign the guy now. This doesn't look like a situation like Colin White where having one great 4 month stretch while playing with Mark Stone leads to an complete overpay. Stuetzle was very good when he was drafted, has continued to get better year over year, got better throughout the season last season. That's not to say the contract is without risk. But all contracts are risky. This contract fits the team's risk profile and aligns with the team competitiveness window.
Lol they can't even make up a player with worse numbers than Matt Murray
Did.. you guys read my comment and decide to finally talk about it? Oh well i'm for it. And I agree, I'm worried about our defense right now and I've been hoping we can offload Zaitsev and bring on a cheaper more reliable guy. Gonna be hard though.
There is very little risk in the Stutzle deal. That 8.6 will be 7.6 in a few more years and a lower cap hit when the cap goes up. A good measuring stick for points is 8-10 points per million bucks paid. A guy like Brady can be paid off of 8 points per game because of everything else he does where a guy like Timmy needs to be around the 10 points per million in a few more years as he's strictly an offensive talent to date. I don't see a future where he's not hitting 75 points on average.
I really hope people keep sleeping on this club because the underlying metrics all point to a PO bound team with some huge numbers being put up this year.
This squad has 270 goals in its DNA which would be top 5 offensively which would give you a massive cushion for a muddled defense.
I do see Hamonic playing minutes with Chabot allowing Zub to be a security blanket for Sanderson, if Jake makes the club or watching Holden/Zub become a thing. Either way I think our defense greatly improves as they'll be spending more time in the other two zones.
Can these two netminders finish with a combined .910 and 2.7 GAA? That's all we need from them if ….IF the offense is as explosive as it should be.
I'm a numbers guy, of I were a betting man I'd bet they make the PO's.
A Fortune to acquire Hamonic ?
So now a third round pick is a fortune ?? Interesting !
They are correct about the need to get rid of Zaitsev to make this off season perfect. I would go a step further, find a top 4 D is a big need but they might find the solution internally with a combo of Sanderson, Thomson or JBD. We'll know at Camp where the progression of those prospects are.
I'm ok with Forsberg and Talbot for the goaltending tandem. Way better than last season !
The Leafs fans will soon realize that Matt Murray is made out of glass and he's gonna get injured within 2 months.
The East will be very hard to predict since there are so many teams that got better. Equal is a very good term and it's going to be the team that wants it the most that will be on top.
Hamonic is better than Zaitsev, J. Brown (gone), and Mete (now a Leaf) and arguably Holden. He's still serviceable and it was only a third round draft pick – not a ransom. Sure Vancouver got the cap space, but the Sens didn't need to chase a UFA defenseman this offseason where the selection was scarce and only have to commit to him this year. Doesn't work? Easily replaced with Thomas or JBD.
If Elias Pettersson (the defenseman taken with the pick) turns into anything, then maybe you can say Sens made a huge blunder. But right now, it looks like 3D chess IMO.
They gave up a 3rd round pick for Hamonic. And he was fine in the 20 or so games he played for Ottawa despite having lingering injuries.
We also can not forget that DJ smith is a free agent next year and Pierre D. Good chance pierre stays and DJ,s contract is not renewed if this team gets off to a poor start again.
Can Adam ever say anything good about Ottawa. Also good see the this was sens talk for 5 mins and then turned in likes talking about other teams. Also They paid a 3rd for him but likes now talk how about all the overpayment the leafs have done. 2nd for nick, first for Peter, first for joe do you want me to continue
Come on guys. Cam Talbot did have an average year, if you go into his advanced stats. And, there is a very good chance Forsberg remains the starter, given what he has achieved in front of a much worse, more high frequency and high danger team.
1:50 Tim does NOT now make more than Jack Hughes, he has another year of entry level contract. The year after this one, he'll make more than Jack Hughes, by which time – who knows how good he'll be. That said, what Steve said is right, Hughes' deal is a very, very good one – as is Tim's. Tim is also younger and has been playing with 3rd line wingers.
Guy on the left is an idiot. Last year was Hughes 1st year on the deal and jimmy is starting his next year.
Also, a fortune for Hammonic is a 3rd?
Also also, this is his last year and Horvat and Miller are up next year.
Also also also, Talbot was one of the better goalies last year. So as you go into next season with two terrible goalies, hold your shade on ours bud
Its cringy listening you guys talking about the Sens. Do your homework before doing a Sens related episode. Jezzuss
