  1. without the give-away, we wouldn't have had a Plante GOD moment with his left foot.

  2. this year and the next are my favorite hockey seasons for watching the leafs. If only they could have held it together for a couple of years by keeping Parent!

  3. @durresjan so true…i can still hear my father yelling at Mckenney and Dorrie giving up the puck in their own end…and Ellis missing a wide open net….AGAIN. Loved those days. I never liked those leaf Uniforms…my faves were from 66/67…amazing how you can hear individual voices in the crowd yelling…I loved the breaks where there would be an Esso or CN add with those simple white graphic and you could hear the buzz of the crowd in the background.

  4. Jacques Plante put together a season for the ages in '70-'71 with the Leafs. Plante posted a record of 24-11-4 with 4 so's, 1.88 gaa, and most impressively a .942 save %! That save % is the highest single season save % of ALL TIME! The only reason Thomas has the official record is b/c they didn't keep track of save % back then. Plante .942 Thomas .938

  5. Lol, the fans faces are making more saves than the goalies. if that happened in our game today we would never hear the end of it, they barely acknowledge it here…its fun to see how much the game has changed over the years

  6. Oh definitely!!! Since I missed seeing Doug Favell so much, it was really exciting to see a goalie like Palmateer come up with the Leafs from Oklahoma(I thought from memory he was a call up, but I guess he just played the previous season there), and seeing him play against my team (although the Leafs were still right there in my heart at the time!) the Canucks at the Pacific Coliseum, well you could see and feel his confidence, and that he was something really special!!!!!

  7. McKenny and Jake Gardner were similar in having great talent and big turnovers!

  8. not sure if the "how did someone record this?" comment is a joke or not. lol. I'm assuming it was recorded using a camera. wild guess.

  9. Keon was my favorite player but being a goalie Plante was the man..Funny how many goals would not have gone in if the goalies did the butterfly back then, only a hand full of then did. No screen around the rink "he's bleeding bad"

  10. Man some of these names I haven't heard in over 40 years….Roy Edwards, Jim McKenna, Wayne Connolly….wow!

  11. My dad was a Toronto cop back in those days and he played for their hockey team the Leafs practiced after. Once in a while he would take me out of school (always said don't tell your mom) and he took me to the rink and introduced me to a handful of the Leafs even managed to get a signed stick off Rick Lee he was a gentleman. Thanks for this Plante was my fave as a kid thought that mask was the coolest thing on this planet..

  12. Ok kids wear your helmet to the NHL game tonight .. I remember those days one time this older lady was sleeping and the puck hit her purse and she jumped a mile…hey Joe got in a fight last night or did you go down the the Gardens to watch the Leafs

  13. The leafs uniforms at the time were so "futuristic". It served them well for almost 25 years. If they wore them now for "nostalgic retro" games they would be popular again.

  14. Even fans back then we're tougher. Get hit by the puck? No whining, no lawsuits, no screaming for nets that ruin everyone's view. Just walk it off and get back to the game.
