  1. As a rangers fan this is the best team I ever seen if you wanted to play a high scoring game they would beat you 10-8 if you wanted to play low scoring they would beat you 2-1 if you wanted to fight they would fight over time I came to love this team but in the 80s I could not stand them

  2. I don't care less what all these moronic Oiler fans yak about–the Islanders won 4 cups in a row–and won 19 straight playoff series (the Oilers only won 8 series in a row and lost to Calgary by scoring on their own net in the 1986 Stanley Cup Semi-Finals)–and I will ALWAYS believe the Islanders would have won 5 cups in a row if the NHL hadn't changed the Stanley Cup Finals format in 1984 from 2-2-1-1-1 to 2-3-2–the Islanders were the better team but they were exhausted

  3. If Mike Bossy hadn't injured his back he would have gone on to many more 50 goal seasons–Bossy had 9 straight seasons of 50 or more goals-something Gretzky never did

  4. If you ever get caught wearing a John Tavares sweater now (2021) during an Islander home game–you do so at your own risk

  5. These fast players from Europe and Russia & Scandinavian countries would run circles around bum Howatt, Nystrom and Gillies.
    Sucker puncher Billy Smith.
Thank God the Oilers were the real team of the 80s decade.

  6. Hahaha🤫🤔😷#22 Bossy's, one odd looking dude, sorta like the dad/substitute teacher in
twisted sister heavy metal videos, lol. Don't get me wrong, he may very well be goat, pure goal scorer, in any era.

  7. I was there for many games during the early 80's , and once when they won the cup. It was incredible!

  8. I'm glad the Islanders will move into the Belmont Arena next season–they didn't belong at the Barclay arena with the Nets–they belonged close to their original home on Long lsland

  9. That 1984 Islanders – Rangers (final series) game was the most exciting hockey game I've ever seen.

  10. Miss those days. Mom & dad would take us in our pajamas & theirs & head over to coliseum & all us fans would blast We Are the Champions as we hung out windows & drove around the parking lot. In 7th grade I got in trouble when I touched the Stanley cup as it was on tour in my school. I just had too! Lolol

  11. Looking at the proud history of this franchise. I'm glad that new ownership has been able to turn it around

  12. That streak of 19 straight playoff series wins will never be matched. Never. An unbreakable record.

  13. Little did we know we would come home, go on two deep playoff runs at our the coliseum, than here in 2022 be at our brand new home UBS arena. I do miss the coliseum, howerever i believe that UBS will bring us lots of joy and even more deep playoff runs and even more cups. Coming from an Isles fan i truly say…
    we are home

  14. In 1976/77 Montreal Canadians lost one game at home during the regular season. In the playoffs they lost 2 games(one at the Forum) to the Islanders.

  15. Stuff they didn't mention 13-2 in OT 10 different scorers. Potvin a record 9 20 or more goals in a season. Scored more playoff goals than Robinson Savard and Harvey in 309 fewer games.Bossy 39 hat tricks in 9 1/2 years Trotts reaches 1000 pts in 96 games less than Messier. Scored 5 pts in first home game.3g2a Bourne Sutter Sutter 70 pts in 1983 playoffs.Smith shutout Oilers. Ties Dryden 80-34 with 80-27. No one else close. Isles beat Oil 10 straight games 48-24 83 84. 15 game win streak No OT GF 97-GA 35. In 1980-83 playoffs Isles up 3 games to 1 or better in 14/16 series. From series 3 to series 12 score 4 or more goals in all 34 wins. Bossy Tonelli Brent Sutter score 19 pts in 1 game. vs LA circa 1984. Most 3 or more goal wins 44 than Edm. 37 in their 5 finals, more 5 goal gms 50 46. More than both Habs 50s 70s combined. Bourne leads Isles in 83 playoffs.Out for rematch. Greatest Playoff Team in History

  16. I don't recall seeing JT interviewed here, but no one on that team did more in the clutch to make those four cups happen than him. Thank you John for the greatest hockey I've ever seen.

  17. Then Gretzky got 50 in 39 lol except no one will repeat 4 consecutive Stanley cup wins or 50 goals in 9 straight seasons will never be broken.

  18. Was a big fan as a kid. I met Ed Westfall briefly during a game here n Vancouver and enjoyed watching their cup run in the 80s even though they swept our Canucks one year in the finals 😁 Sad that we've lost Al, Clark and Mike. What an incredible group of hockey players.

  19. Hockey has changed, all the advertising on the boards, the rinks are huge and cold, players don't have charisma, fans are quieter more distant than before and I can go on and on. I lived through the greatest era of hockey and very thankful.
