Well… they also replaced their coach and their goalie, and finally got Kaprizov, who energized everyone. Are they better this year than last? Sure, but is it because Mikko's gone? No. If you had him instead of, say, Bjugstad, would they be worse? No… much better? I doubt it, certainly no worse either.
PS, fun fact: #5 all time face offs won? Mikko Koivu. Don't try to tell me they don't miss that.
I agree with the ring of honor idea but only because I generally dislike formally retiring numbers. Even 99… anyone with balls big enough to wear 99 (or 88 for that matter), go for it.
