As a non-leaf fan who watches 80% of leaf games. Your team was better last year. Every time you replace a goalie they get worse. Freddie was better than Campbell and Campbell is better than Murray and Samsonov. You lose so much depth on the waiver wire. Your Defense is average at best. You will have a great regular season but when the puck drops in round 1 you will lose again. Goaltending will sink you again unless you get someone WAY better.

Tandems are nonsense. Regular season, sure whatever but when it comes to the four important games, there isn't time to be flipping through the menu looking for an option. 12 goals is pretty well what it comes down to, a few ugly ones and it's golf season.
My bet is more on the younger goalie than Matt.
What the leafs are banking on imo is not necessarily playing murray 40-50 games and being an elite team in the regular season…they can be a great team no matter who the goalie is…what they probably want is keeping murray healthy until the playoffs and then leaning on him…whatever the circumstances are murray still backstopped the pens to back to back cups so he knows what to do and be successful in a short tournament style format like the playoffs…
Matt Murray as had 3 concussions on the sens the past 2 season 1 more and his career could be over so it a massive gamble for the leafs.
Goaltending been trash for a while for the leafs. Last best good goalie was Ed belfour lmao
Murray was sent down to the AHL and put on waivers. Anderson was an average goalie in TOronto and turned to the top save percentage on another team. Samsonov had a save % under .900. Injuries will sink this team.
Hopefully the same thing happens this year so we can clean house and start fresh.
If you look at jack campbell coming in from L A to play back up to Freddie Anderson and then stepping into a lead role shortly after it has to speak some volume to leafs coaching staff. Jack campbell is not a number one goalie. He’s not that great. Had a good lucky bounce. Perhaps they do turn Murray/Samsonov into something. They have 2 shots. Come back to this post in April I bet Murray steels the show and Samsonov stuns and signs an extension 2 year 2.5 mil
When your team chooses Matt Murray as your # 1 goalie, your team isn’t serious about winning anything.
Defence is has been and will continue to be the biggest problem until they get rid of this useless general manager who thinks that you can outscore your opposition in the playoffs every night.

Washington's defense was suspect at times last year and Samsonov was also bad at times. I think one contributed to the other in Washington and Murray was on a very bad team with lots of injuries, so I think we need to give each the benefit of the doubt.
You make Austin and offer forget everything else and you do it this season same money as McKinnon or you find a trade partner take there best defenseman there best center and make the trade. It's about winning not about a player the reason we keep getting rid of good players is we can't afford them that needs to stop. So make him the offer and leave it with him. Take it or we're gonna trade you.

Signing Campbell would have been a bigger gamble than a Murray and Samsonov combo.

We have seen some fantastic goal tending over the past few years, but when the players on the ice brain stall and fall apart in from of them the puck goes in and people want to say " bad goalie" give your heads a shake, TO is where goalies come to DIE, or lose there reputation; It is the easiest out for the fools who think cause they have been watching hockey for YADA YADA, to say the goalie is bad I say BS, every body is responsible to protect that goal.
Too not have stud D men you will never win the last game of the year: when you have a team that spend more time working on their shots than how do I protect that goal; the Leafs suck defensively, and until that has been settled forget it. Too many commentators are in love with goal scoring, and at the end of the regular season every experience player will tell you Play Offs are about DEFENCE. Not goal scoring, not the best goalie in the world, TEAM DEFENCE.
