I spoke with Connors uncle a couple of years ago, he told me how disappointed Connor was that he had been drafted by the Oilers as it was his dream to play for the Leafs..

Players want to play where they can have success and be on a contender in a great hockey market. It's natural that McDavid would want to have been drafted by Toronto,being from there. But I think players like Orr and Gretzky had those dreams growing up as well. And I'm sure there's some initial disappointment when that particular dream dies due to the draft order, but I don't think either of those players regretted being drafted by their respective teams. One could see McDavid didn't seem to be that thrilled initially, but if you were to ask him NOW, he'd tell you that he's very happy in Edmonton.
As far as measuring a team's success, I'd say that over the last few years, there's not that much difference between the Oilers and the Leafs in terms of being a real contender. Yes the Leafs have made the playoffs more times, but haven't made it past the first round.
So if the Leafs lose in the first round AGAIN, do you think Matthews will want to move?

No matter now good McDavid is, the Leafs will not trade Matthews. Realistically speaking, the Oilers problem is that they are top heavy: their whole franchise is built on two players only: McDavid and Draisaitl. They are pretty thin after that. The Oilers need quality 2nd and 3rd liners, of which the Leafs have plenty. A fair trade would be: Marner, Johnsson, Kapanen and Lilijigren. That is way, then more enough. The Oilers come out ahead in this trade, the Leafs clear an extra 5 million in cap space and we now have the 1st and 2nd best players in the world on the Leafs! Let's do it @Dubas

I love how this is Leafers' wet dream. Why does everyone in Toronto think every player wants to play there? Playing for the Leafs would suck. Half the fans want you traded everytime you make a mistake…and 75% of the media. When it comes to McDavid, Toronto is like an obsessed ex that just won't let go, it's pathetic. If I were a Leafs fan I'd be more worried about getting past Columbus. If Chicago beats Edmonton I'm pretty sure McDavid would shoulder his share of the blame and not blame Oilers management, who obviously made a commitment to win. The most informed (and rational) Leaf blogger, Steve Dangle, has the Oilers as his dark horse.
