Caps fan here; this actually undersells our pain before the cup. There are a good number of us that live in or grew up in central PA and were introduced to hockey with the Hershey Bears or the Caps coming to Hershey to reach out to their AHL fans. But an AHL team only has so much influence so we're still surrounded by Penguins and Flyers fans. Those back to back cups for the Pens especially was a real blow to some of us, in fact in 2017-18 I was like "not even watching the regular season, call me when you make it past the second round" (this was before I discovered you, the "meaningless regular season" meme was so true). And even so it didn't feel like we really beat the Pens until we beat Fleury since so many Pens fans became Vegas fans too for Fleury since they were in a different conference (guess I kinda have the same mentality though since I've made the Stars my second team for Holtby, lol).
AAAAAAAAAND after their cup win, they're back to the shitter. Gotta love the consistency
