I wonder if Mateychuk purposefully went the complete opposite of Wright this year.
Where Wright went conservative and focused on a 2 way game (his words), Mateychuk was like, "i won't earn any brownie points being a passive Dman in my draft year so…YOLO!"

As a Columbus fan… I see Jiricek as a 2nd pair guy… possibly 1st pair guy!! And I personally thought Jiricek was best d man in the draft!!! Mateychuk is a 3-4 pair guy!! A wasted pick as we’re already loaded at LD in our prospect pool!!! Plus we just got Corson Ceulemans and Stanislav Svozil in last years draft which are just as good as Jiricek and Mateychuk!!! That being said I wanted Columbus to take Savoie at 6 and Nazar at 12!! Then I go defense with our 2nd round pick but…since Gleb Trikosov was available I take him and worry about defense in free agency and in next years draft. as CBJ will not be in the playoffs!! We’ll be competitive but no…. then I go all in on Klingberg or Chychrun!! Which would’ve kept us Bjorky!! This was what i would’ve done… plus who knew Johnny Hockey was coming!! Lol So it is what it is!! But Savoie and Nazar are gonna be stars in this league in 4-5 years mark my words!! Hope we didn’t make the wrong choices!!
