Probably 14-15 mil. I expect he’ll sign before the season next year. He won’t want that distraction all year
If he has any interest in winning he’ll sign for 13.4 by whatever.
I’ll be happy if the best player in franchise history signs an 8 year term. He deserves the money he’ll get.
Even if Matthews doesn’t re-sign right away on July 1, 2023 which is the day he is eligible to sign a contract extension, no one should take it to mean he’s going to leave as a UFA.
Nathan MacKinnon was eligible to sign his recent 8 year contract extension on July 13, 2022. However as we just saw he signed it on September 20, 2022.
Although knowing the Toronto media if Matthews doesn’t sign on July 1, 2023 they will not mention the MacKinnon example, even though there was no talk about him becoming a UFA next offseason.
Pay the man.
What teams even have the capspace for Matthews? I don’t think he wants to live in Detroit or god forbid Arizona.
