1. This almost sounds like it would be the perfect starter arena for a video game. At this point, it sounds like the league doesn't want the embarrassment that would come from Arizona folding. But there are few real options for the team to move to. Maybe back to Quebec. But this is a tragic situation indeed.

  2. it's also worth mentioning that Ellman and the Coyotes also owned Westgate, the big retail and entertainment center next door to GRA, it never met it's full potential. the parking lots on the west side of the arena were all going to be built out with residential space and offices. when the economic downturn hit in 2008, the plans were put on hold. the property went into foreclosure in 2011, and ownership was given to iStar the same year. it was later sold to to Bob Parsons, the founder of GoDaddy a couple years later in 2018. Glendale was screwed from the get go.

  3. Was thinking Of going to ASU for transferring now I wish I did I could go to free games

  4. I've heard after NHL team and media amenities are added the capacity will be between 3,500 and 4,500.

Absolutely embarrassing. Team should be in Hamilton

  5. Obviously the Coyotes are at a crossroads like they were when they tried to build the arena in Scottsdale. If they can convince the city of Tempe to approve this one, they will instantly be right where a majority of their season ticket holders are. Not to mention the city is much bigger than Glendale, which sits in the middle of nowhere. The reason why the NHL has kept the team around after all this drama is that they truly want to see if they can succeed in a city/arena that sets them up for success. I know it’s frustrating for a lot of non-AZ fans, but this needs to happen in order to make the ultimate decision to leave or not a clear one.

  6. Got lots wrong here…on ice team was great in Phoenix. And so was attendance. Revenues streams weren’t working sharing with the suns. Left out the part where Glendale backed out of a 15 year lease agreement with RSE in 2015. Glendale didn’t agree to “cover team losses to keep them”. They paid flat 25M to nhl to manage the team and arena. You have the skeleton of the story. But told it in a way that’s classic biased against the Yotes. Do better.

  7. The Coyotes announced that they were keeping the student section. Explaining why they're not selling season tickets for those sections.

Also Glendale allegedly tried to force a 20 year lease on the Coyotes. Them not paying was a very much a poorly thought out negotiating tactic

  8. In my opinion I don't think Tempe is going to help build a $1B arena when the team won't even get the arena to full attendance because of how bad the team is. Their best option is to relocate.

  9. There are catholic prep high schools in metro Detroit that have arenas in the 2000 seat range. It’s pretty embarrassing to have an NHL team that will be out drawn by most OHL teams.

  10. If the Tempe City Council and the Tempe Chamber of Commerce reject the Coyotes’ arena proposal, team owners Alex Meruelo and Andrew Barroway will have to sell the Coyotes to a Salt Lake City-based ownership consisting of Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake owner Ryan Smith, actor Zac Efron, “Dancing with the Stars” alums Julianne and Derek Hough, singers Donny and Marie Osmond and former Jazz Dancer and “Let’s Make a Deal” model Tiffany Coyne for $950 million, including a relocation fee of $195 million following the 2022-23 NHL season. As a result, the Coyotes will relocate from the Phoenix area to Salt Lake City to become the Utah Coyotes and play at Vivint Arena beginning in the 2023-24 NHL season.

  11. Time to move that team to a real hockey market, this is an embarrassment for the league and loyal fans all across North America. The league lost his bet, enough money wasted!!!

  12. It's like Bettman couldn't admit the handling of the Atlanta Thrashers' situation was a failure. They were the Phoenix Coyotes, but played in arena hours away?
A winning product would help in leverage, but the proposals all have sounded like snake oil. I feel bad for the fans, and Clayton Keller and Chrychun deserve better

  13. As a Flyers Fan I’ve Been Saying The Same Thing For a While About The Coyotes Move The Team To Houston Texas NOT Quebec City!

  14. It has been documented that the Coyotes were set to relocate to Winnipeg (not Seattle) if a favorable lease agreement was not made in 2010 with the city of Glendale. The NHL and True North of Winnipeg had already set the conditions for the purchase and relocation to Canada if Glendale didn't give in. So the NHL had a gun to the heads of Glendale city council. Glendale city council gave in to the NHL's demands and thus had to make very difficult decisions to reduce library services and fire services to make up the shortfall. True North went on to purchase the Atlanta Thrashers the following year. Also FYI: The Winnipeg Jets began operating in 1971 in the WHA before it merged with the NHL in 1979.

  15. We can only go UP! And up we are going. I have no doubt that we will become a serious team cup contending team in the next 6-8 years. No doubt it’s not awesome, but hockey in the desert WILL WORK!

  16. To be honest The Coyotes Never should have left Phoenix hopefully The asu deal works for The coyotes
