@Coyotes de l'Arizona

1. why is Bettmann so adamant in keeping the team in Arizona ? This situation is starting to get a bit sad. If Bettman had 1/100th of the commitment in trying to keep the original Jets in Winnipeg, the team wouldn't have moved.

  2. Arizona is doing great if their strategy is to be bought out and moved. They are stocking up on draft picks and all their UFA contracts are expiring

  3. The problem with the arena in Glendale is it's way on the west side of town (and I live in the West Valley). People don't want to drive from Tempe, Mesa, or Scottsdale on a Tuesday 30-45 miles to watch a hockey game. They should have been more centrally located all along – I'm sure this hasn't helped their stability. Local sports talk almost never talks Coyote hockey.

  4. As a former Phoenician, this is their last chance. As Walsh mentioned, Scottsdale would’ve been great, but the proposed location in Tempe is immediately south of Scottsdale and has better freeway access. If it isn’t approved, move them – And while I know the Canadian fans are clamoring for a team in QC or Hamilton, Houston or KC is more likely.

  5. As a Coyotes fan – I've got to be honest. I've been hearing all these people say "THE END IS NIGH – THEY'RE GOING TO MOVE THE TEAM" for literally a decade. It's so far beyond obnoxious.

  6. After the NHL and Gary Bettman insisted in bankruptcy court that the team was perfectly viable in Arizona and that Balsillie should not be allowed to relocate the team to Hamilton due to what Gray called previous ownership issues. He knows if he is proven wrong and is forced to move the team he, the NHL will be open to a sizable lawsuit. The fact is Arizona has never been a suitable NHL market. It has lost money every year, even after getting a free arena out of Glendale, which the NHL insisted would make the team an outstanding success. The team in Arizona is a massive money pit and could result to a very sizable legal battle if it is relocated. Through the courts Gary had an actual deal to relocate this team to Canada cancelled because it was "viable in Arizona". Gary dropped the ball on this from day one and now he is permanently stuck looking for a solution to an impossible problem. The team can not survive in Arizona. Having a dink sized arena does not help the situation in any way.

  7. They’re never moving outside of Arizona.

Do something else with your time.

  8. The Winnipeg Jets/(Phoenix)Arizona Coyotes, if this all works out, would be playing in their fourth(fifth?) arena and fourth city in 30 years…I’m not trying to dunk on the franchise, but Bettman needs to resign.

  9. Whats stupid about the entire thing is ..Why move them at all? Disband the Organization and give one the better (which is debateable) places an expansion team. Does anyone realy want this team? Its better to have an entirely new team. How about those Kraken? They will be the Coyotes soon or just a plain losing organization. How long until those Owners decide to get out of the NHL.

  10. Canadians are OBSESSED with pulling the coyotes out of Arizona. It’s not happening

  11. No other league in the world would except this kinda proposal. Bettman has kicked the can down the road once again but doomed the other owners to pay for his stupidity for next 4 years. Talking about a team that’s not pulling its own weight.

  12. Can anyone comment on why the team did not negotiate a deal with the SUNS at Talking Stick Arena – America West – the rink is not perfect with obstructed views (15000 capacity) – may need a new ice plant – but every arena operator wants a new tenant – except for the city of Glendale (eviction).

  13. I’m surprised you guys didn’t take geography into the equation for where they could move. The NHL finally balanced out all divisions with the additions of Vegas and Seattle, they are not going to take a west coast team and put it somewhere that would create an imbalance. They are infested in Arizona because they are creating hubs. Right now the south west is a 4 team hub that doesn’t require significant travel and promotes rivalries. If they move the team I suspect it stays on the west coast and lends itself to creating another hub. So, maybe Sacramento, Salt Lake City could be another great spot for them. But I think the best destination would be Portland. They would create this strong north west hub or Portland Seattle and Vancouver.

  14. My question is, what on earth will it take to convince Gary that an ICE sport in the DESERT is a stupid idea?

My hunch is nothing will because, a full DECADE OF FAILURE and an utterly ambivalent fanbase, hasn't.

  15. Most fans in DC live outside the city and it can easily take over 45 minutes to go to a game

  16. They were not evicted from Glendale, the current owners wanted the city to pay for everything at Gila…Coyote ownership is garbage.

  17. Imagine being an Arizona draft pick from the Halifax Mooseheads or London Knights where the average attendance is 7500 or 8500 per night. Oy..

  18. Typical double standard for US teams vs Canadian teams. Arizona perfectly illustrates this issue. Having any team in such a small arena really disparages the NHL as a professional sports league. It's quite simply embarrassing Bettman refuses to admit this total failure.

  19. If the Tempe deal doesn't go through, they can literally buy the land right next to where they currently want to build.
    Too bad that requires research.

  20. Instability never helps any team. The fact that they're talking about moving to some place smaller than college teams is a big issue that is not feasible in a longer term situation.
I'm a yotes fan since I live here now, but they haven't been able to consistently keep the caliber of players they need to win. I just don't see how an NHL team can survive with only 4000 seats!! The arena coming for the Sundevil's hockey team is going to take time. It's great for the newer ASU team to move up to… but an NHL team needs a bigger capacity than Tempe is offering. The Phoenix Roadrunners played at a larger venue, so I just don't see the point…

  21. They’re building a separate/adjacent building to account for locker rooms. Coming out of pocket from the Coyotes. It’s not going below 5,000 seats, just saying.

  22. Where the Suns and the IHL Phoenix Coyotes played is still standing. It was nicknamed Madhouse on McDowell. Wouldn't be cheaper for the Coyotes to pay for anything needed for games to be played there? They have at least 14,000 seats!

  23. When the Winnipeg Jets were stolen, they knew America West Arena wasn't built for hockey. Yet, they still played there. Then they made the decision to build in Glendale, the western side of town, when they knew there fan and population base was on the eastern side of town! Dumb and Dumber come to mind.

  24. Gary Bettman's blistering ego won't let him admit that he made a mistake moving this team to Arizona. Unfortunately, this is one reason why the Coyotes will never move to Quebec City – which definitely deserves getting an NHL team back!

  25. 1) There will never be a team in Quebec city, since (a) they rely on the Candian dollar which is (unfortunately) never as strong as the US dollar, (b) the TV revenue wouldn't be as great as other places, and (c) that would mean one more team in the East, creating an imbalance in the number of teams.
    2) My money is that the Coyotes move to Houston. It has an interested owner (Tilman Fertitta), an arena (Toyota Center), a hockey history (the Houston Aeros) and a natural rival (Dallas Stars). Couple that with a large TV market and no imbalance in teams from East to West, and this one is a no brainer.
    3) The NHL will put a team in Mexico before they put in a team in Atlanta again. Atlanta could care less about hockey. That much is obvious.

  26. spineless bettman who allowed the racist blm into the great game of hockey said that the coyotes will do just fine financially in a 5k arena, compared to an 18k seat stadium… this guy is senile…

  27. The Coyotes would have NEVER BEEN EVICTED had they paid their bills! As a resident of Glendale, AZ(Just a few miles from Gila River Arena) THE COYOTES OWNERSHIP DID THIS TO THEMSELVES!!!!

  28. Theres always the Vets Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix! Just renovate that building, not ASU
