I need help from the hockey community or, Mr. Hockey. There was a 'bloody' series between the Vancouver Canucks and another team. The Canucks wore their 'Halloween' jerseys and I think it was the Chicago Blackhawks they were playing. Does anyone remember this?
I think i actually got traded by Philly once???
Steve Mason is third as a goaltender in franchise wins for the Flyers? I know their goalie rep but man that's disheartening.
I like the Flyers too but the most important stat is simple: no Cup victory in 43 years.
Part of why Bobs went to Columbus was due to them signing Bryz to a horrendously large deal and Bobs wasn't happy with the idea of being stuck as a backup just because the guy in front of him had a hefty contract.
Didn't the 75ers history stop that year?
Thank you philly for being completely moronic over the years, still living in the 70s…
Keep the incompetence going!
Playing hockey with Gritty's head just sounds like death by boiled head
Up to 89, and it was a fantastic organization and history. Then we hit a dead period. Eric lindros arrival and from 95 to 2012, we only missed the playoffs once. 97 was nightmare SCF appearance. 2010 was a very nice, but flukey run.
Now the past seven years, have been a paul holmgren induced nightmare of incompetence. Hextall slow role rebuild has not yet shown that it is/was productive.
Right now, our future is on thin ice. These prospects need to develop and Fletch needs to do a hell of a better job managing this team than he did in MN
I remember you saying in a livestream or whatever that if you were offered an analyst job, you wouldn't take it. Props my friend. Honestly, you put all those guys to shame. Really excited to see your subscriber count rise drastically once the season begins. I'm a big fan of the game and you are hands-down the go-to guy on hockey news. As I've said many times and will continue to, all the best my friend!
Going to be entering a new heyday soon. Young blueline will mature and develop with Braun and Niskanen leading the way this season. Hart gets his first full year in the big league. TK, Patrick, Lindblom will continue to develop. 2020-21 our young guys will be over the "young guy" hump and ready to be legit, our vets will still have gas in the tank, and we'll have Farabee, Frost, Ratcliffe, Brink, York, etc. ready to be shuffled in. Team is built correctly right now.
Wish they would have taken Jagr instead of Ricci in 1990.
Your forgetting 1976 when the team lost to the Montreal Canadiens in 4 games
I have so much with this team. Never a fan of them, but they are fun to dislike. Not in a hateful way. More of a playful way. Man…Hextall really got me worked up way back when.
Shannon, BOB played well for Philly. There were inter-personal issues between Bob and Bryz, and issues between Bob and management (They'd run commercials for games where Bob would use his name to answer questions like he was a GD pokemon.) The guy didn't know a lick of English while he was in this town, and the org took advantage of it for a LONG time.
👍
But Philly have lost 6 finals. Also -76.
There's a shadow of shadow.
Their best player is Gritty lol. In all seriousness, they need to get out of cap hell and get younger talent.
i would still make that trade for lindros today but manage lindros better
Since we won the Cup in ‘75, we’ve lost and jumpstarted every Dynasty when we got to the Finals again (76, 80, 85, 87, 97, 10). We’ve never gotten that Cinderella team in the finals (Like Vegas in 2018) who runs out of gas.
This is an important year for the Flyers as this is the first time in their history they are almost irrelevant among the 4 Pro teams in our city. We haven’t won a playoff series since 2012 as this has pretty much been a lost decade since that Finals run in 2010. Sadly we’ve wasted a good chunk of Giroux’s career.
Thank you for posting! As a flyers fan, I think they need to completely change the way they do things. To me, they're just a dumpster fire that just keeps burning. It should not take 40+ year to win another cup.
They should've never let Peter Laviolette go. I still cant stand Ed Snider for that.
Rick tocchet was one of the best flyers ever I think
Scottie Hartnell :))) yea you do mix them up it’s funny
Honestly, the best way I've learned to describe the Flyers is a team that's had a significant amount of success in the past several decades, but has been incredibly unlucky with who they've been matched up with in the postseason and in their 6 finals appearances since 1975. I don't know if there's some curse going on or what, but they always seem to end up playing a dynasty at some point when they're making a run for the Cup, and it absolutely must be frustrating as a fan to see so much talent go through this team and still have a drought like this going on, even with all the talent that's passed through this team.
31:54, your wrong about the 4 draft picks Tampa sent to Philly for Dykhous and Renberg. Those picks were originally Phillys and went to Tampa as Compensation for the Flyers signing Chris Gratton to an offer sheet when he was a restricted agent.
Awesome video! Can you please do a career of Mats Sundin video? One of the best players to never win a cup
I know its been done a few times, but I think you would do a great video on the whole Lindros story, both the trade to and from Philly. Might be my Philly sports fan bias but I think its a very interesting story. It has a few different angles to it.
Nice post!
History of the Flyers…Arrived in the league with the attitude of being mean. dirty and physical will win you cup, with a smige of talent in case…which it did at their first, changing the league to more aggressive players for the worse…worked until a certain team, the Montreal Canadiens, reminded all the league that pure talent can also win cup…many in a row in fact and after that league wise up and balanced…never won a cup again…Try again the mean and dirty road with the legion of doom…failed again…Gave all their future at the time for Eric i'm too good to play in Quebec Lindros, giving also Colorado his first cup…Draft well in the 2000, develop not that well…Final against the Hawks with many injured goalie and being beaten by the team with a goodish goalie in Niemi and a better defensive and balanced core…never came close and now don't know what to do with themselve…second rebuild ? Restructuration ? New GM and coach pretty gives no clue…well that was quick ! Also last no 1 goalie was Pelle Lindberg, a sad tragic lost of a career, never had a good no 1 stable goalie after that…Finger crossed for Carter Hart…
Remember when the Flyers had Brobovsky in his rank and decided that Bryzgalov was the future…Life is funny this way ! Also the amount of goalie that organization played is too god damn high !!! Last great was Pelle Lindberg, a sad tragic lost who should never be forgotten…Fingers crossed for Carter Hart !!
Remember when they pretty much destroyed the confidence of Robert Esche just to teach him a lesson by making him stay in a losing game…like 12-2 or something like that…Antero Nittymaki after that…good time…Not as horrible as the trio Biron, Boucher and Leighton…Flyers and goalie man…
great vid
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
Nope Upshall and Hartnal a common one 😛
Go Flyers Go!
Watching older vids on your channel and I can't believe I missed this one. You're the best Shannon! Love that jersey. Go Flyers!

IMO the Flyers were the only true World Champion in '75-'76 even with losing the Cup to the Canadians(in probably the most highly contested sweep in NHL history). They won the Cup(over another expansion team in Buffalo) then were the only NHL team to beat the vaunted Soviet Red Army and beat them(quite literally) handily. The final score was 4-1 and it wasn't that close. It was so bad Joe Watson scored a goal.
Oh, question: Would the Flyers have been better having not traded for Lindros and drafted Chris Simon with the same draft pick? I believe keeping Ricci and Forsberg the Flyers would have been contenders for the Cup by about 1996.
Bob needed to be cleared out to make room for the train wreck that was Bryzgalov
Peter Forsberg NHL PPG 1994-2011 1.250 QUE/COL 1994-2004 PPG 1.278 Eric Lindros 1992-2007 NHL PPG 1.138 PHI 1992-2000 PPG 1.356 PHI/NYR PPG 1992-2002 1.312 Bobby Clarke PHI 1969-1984 PPG 1.058 1971-1980 PPG 1.190
While Bobby Clarke is considered the best player ever to don the orange and black jersey and in his nine year prime, he was arguably the best player in hockey second only to the great Bobby Orr in the 1970's. Fast forward to the 1990's and in the 8-year period from 1992 to 2000, Lindros despite the injuries and concussions, was obviously a better player if you want to consider the PPG average. Yes Lindros didn't have a decent goaltender, and the defense was shaky at best, but as a player, LIndros was just a better player during his prime than even Forsberg despite Forsberg winning two Stanley Cups and Forsberg having more success in the international competitions than Lindros, which is another topic.
In the NHL Lindros according to the PPG especially during his prime years in PHI had 1.356 PPG and even with the NYR still was able to maintain his PPG to 1.312. It was later in his career when the PPG average shifted downward and even then he still maintains an overall NHL PPG average of 1.138. While it's not higher than Forsberg's average, it's still higher than Clarke's, who had more help with Bernie Parent in the net, and the most feared goon squad during their time (Schultz, Kelly, Crisp, and Dupont). Also, Lindros had more hat tricks with the Flyers (11 with PHI and 13 career) than Clarke's entire career (5).
All I'm saying is that had Lindros been mostly healthy and had Lindros had a better goaltender and even enforcers, I'm pretty sure he would've had a much higher PPG average. As of this writing, only Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy, Orr had higher PPG average than Lindros and even the new kid from EDM, McDavid. Once again, Clarke may be considered the best player on the Flyers, but during his time on the ice, Lindros was better in his eight years with PHI than Clarke was during his prime from 1971-1980 and especially in his career!!! And he had more hat tricks in his career (11 with the Flyers and 13 total) over Clarke (5) and in the 1994-95 season, had Lindros had 1 more point, he would've been the first Flyer to win the Art Ross Trophy, but Jagr beat him by most goals scored.
another unique tidbit about the Flyers, is following their championships as the Broad Street Bullies, they became the league's box office draw. From the mid-70s through the 80s every building they played in would fill up to maximum capacity.
