  1. I'd argue that he'd be competing for the Norris if it wasn't for Makar being ridiculous. Toews doesn't even need Makar to carry him either, he plays like a 1D when he's on his own pairing. Amazing offensively AND defensively (ridiculous on PK)

The fact that the Avs play get to play them together is OP. Never EVER trade with Sakic or Yzerman, it's not a trade at that point, it's a robbery.

  2. If the islanders never trade him, they would still be good, now. There a dumpster fire

  3. Mate, 1,489 is not 14,000. Don't use numbers if you don't how to read them. Cheers!

  4. x 2 second round picks for a 31 point earner Dman. Avs will have him for 2.5 more years……..Will be only 28 in a few weeks.
$4.1 mil AAV is not an impossible contract to pay going forward until 2024.
Can Colorado keep adding capable Dmen?

  5. not sure toews would have had a breakout season in NY like he has had on a stacked avalanche team…still a fleece though

  6. toews is pretty good regardless, but he shine's because of makar. it was a very good pickup by the snowflakes, no matter which way you look at it.

  7. I believe that in the near future, the Florida Panthers have made a very good decision in drafting Evan Nause in the second round pick, that I would have loved the Flyers to choose.

  8. The isles got backed into a corner. They didn't want to move him but with a flat cap and no one biting on taking Nick Leddy, they had to take the best offer on Toews to resign Barzal. It sucks but what are ya gonna do.

  9. Traded Toews and Leddy and replaced with Greene and Chara, combined 81 years old and Lou wonders why they've under performed. With Pelech/Pulock/Dobson and Mayfield Toews would be another great defenseman had they not traded him.

  10. Makar is incredibly flashy and sooooo fun to watch… but Toews is so reliable on both ends of the ice. I despair what he'll cost to re-up because I think he's one of the most important parts of our team.

  11. I am a long time Avs fan and I love Toews. He is a real talent and plays the right way all the time. But Toews has the benefit of playing with one of the top three D-men in the NHL, Cale Makar. And, IMHO, the best blue line in the NHL in Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanan and Gabe Landeskog. When you have that type of talent on the ice together, they tend to score like a pinball machine (old school game with lots of points). With that, you have five guys on the ice and none of them can be covered 1 on 1. Someone usually gets a nice look and all five know how to shoot and score. Toews has been scoring a lot and contributing a lot to the hottest team in the NHL right now. GM Joe Sakic is the trade master.

  12. I don't know if it's the coaching or the other players, but so many players have gone to Colorado and just straight up improved so much

  13. As a diehard Avs fan, when I originally read they traded for Toews I watched some of his playoff games with NYI… and my eyes just couldn't blink. He was obviously PERFECT, just the subtle interference he always gets away with, effortless skating, sharp passing, and a really smart game. Without him playing in an Avs sweater it was self-evident that he would be the perfect compliment for Makar and Girard. Aaand here we are, he's getting Norris attention! So happy

  14. Notsure if Sakic got fleece, that much with Darcy Kuemper, before Phoenix, he helped the Wild beat Avs in 7. So Sakic might have understood his upswing by first hand knowledge, in 2014 as a back to Ilya Bryzgalov at age 23, he helped Wild win in 7 with 3-1-0 record

  15. Makar is free to do his magic because he knows he's got a great defenseman backing him up. Toews so rarely makes a mistake with the puck. And he handles his business when he doesn't have the puck.

    What a steal.
