Devils will give Blackwood another chance. I believe it will be Vancek and Blackwood. We still have Bernier rehabbing from surgery from last year.
The beat goes on and another goalie changes teams–Vanecek will help the Devils be better IMHO.
Devils collecting goalies. Vanicek is probably the starter moving forward, or at a minimum 1A to Blackwoods 1B.
It's a good trade if they recommit to Blackwood who is good enough to be #1. Vanecek is a good 2nd and could become a #1 if things go right for him and Blackwood falters…
Another questionable move by Chris Drury! Georgiev was a better goalie, to me, than Vanecek, yet Washington got better trade assets. Buchnevich trade, alienating your international players, losing your 1st for Copp (who they probably can't afford to resign) and that player selected by Winnepeg ends up being C Brad Lambert (highly regarded Fin center prospect), only getting a low 3rd, low 5th, and 2023 3rd for Geogiev, while Caps get a high 2nd and high 3rd foe Vanecek! Ridiculous how this bum gets the benefit of the doubt because Gorton selected a "great goalie" in Shestorikin! Drury clearly learned nothing from his time with Gorton and Davidson, and prefers to do things his own way! Gorton turned around a depleted Bruins organization, a depleted Rangers organization, and is on his way to turning around a depleted Canadians franchise!!!!
I'm puzzled by this move by the Devils. Thought they wanted to really spend some money, and go for a badly needed good solid goalie, to either tandem with Blackwood, or be the starter, and move Blackwood out (eg. Gibson). Instead, they do this. Vanecek is a decent backup, but it's a definite step down from the expectations. Is that it, or is something else brewing…hope so. this current tandem will not do it for them to move forward.
