  1. He did bring in a 4th line forward.from Montreal Poeshling with Petry. They do need a 3rd line forward .Ty Smith really good rookie yrs .Petry very good offensively.

  2. When someone gets sent down to start the season, the Pens have 24.8 mil spread across 7D. 2 get buried in the minors.
That's a very standard amount. They were over 27 mil during one of the JJ years.
The left side would be quite weak without Dumoulin or Pettersson.
Petry and Smith are already poor defensive defensemen.

Considering D play more than bottom 6'ers, upgrading the 3rd line at the cost of the blue line doesn't seem worth it to me.
Only way it does is if POJ and Smith really take big steps forward in their careers. Too risky.
I think at most Friedman or Ruhwedel get traded for a league minimum Forward.

I would much prefer to dump Zucker (costing a 2nd) and bring back Heinen + acquire Larsson. Should be able to swing that for 5.5 mill. I liked Heinen on Malkin's LW in everything besides finishing, which may change with Rakell on the other side.

  3. No love for Zohorna among the fan base or the coaching staff. I checked his hockey-reference page.
So far in the NHL at even-strength he's on the ice for 20 goals for and 2 against. 55.8% CF with 61.4% D-zone starts.
The offense is great too. He's at 2.34 5v5 P/P60 through 25 games.
    Rakell's at 2.36 through 19 games.

When he got sent down again, he must have thought "What the fuck do I gotta do?"
He should be on Carter's wing. Carter needs his sound play and board work.

  4. Loving the show from New Smyrna Beach, FL on vacation but I can't wait to get back to da burgh!

  5. Good morning Dan! Hope you had a great weekend, I'm hoping the penguins give Marcus Petterson a chance! I think he is a great player with a bright future

  6. Just a few thoughts. Maybe there's something to a strategy of having too many defenders you feel good about. Keep them fresh all year. Allows for some of the inevitable attrition. Then you can buy a few bottom-6 forwards at the deadline for cheap. I'm almost certain theyll add more to the forward ranks and subtract form the D ranks before the season but maybe having too many defenders can be kind of a good thing.

  7. Sullivan needs to do what made him a great coach in the first place. Surround the old core with fresh young talent. PLAY THE YOUNGER HUNGRY PLAYERS You don’t win back to back cups without your Bryan rust, Conor sheary,Scott Wilson, jake guentzel, ect.

  8. Hey dk, I’ve seen “reports” of Hextall and Seattle in talks to bring Taney back to Pittsburgh. Not sure where they came from, but have you heard about this? Is there any merit to this?

  9. this to many D men talk is a good thing especially after shedding d men. A clear indication that the pens are doing something about their broken D…it's kinda like the Steelers having 4 qb's in training camp. I predict Pedderson will be the next to go….I see them allowing Dumo to ride out his contract and then retire and have him on the 3rd line. Does he have mentor value in the meanwhile too? But I think the big failure was keeping Malkin..thats created many problems
